Siegfried & Roy welcome leopard cub to Secret Garden
Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 | 4:35 p.m.
A new baby leopard cub will be ready for its close-up when it is unveiled to the public at The Mirage’s Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat next Wednesday.
The cub, Java, was born Nov. 19 to Asabi and Mu-gamba, two other inhabitants of the Secret Garden. There was a lot of thought that went into the naming of the newest addition, caretakers at The Secret Garden said.
“We named him Java after one of the most exotic coffee beans in the world from the island of Java in Indonesia,” Roy Horn said in a statement. “Our espresso leopard proudly displays hundreds of spots and joins his older siblings, brother Neruda and sisters Leni and Ibasa and their parents in the Secret Garden.”
The Secret Garden now has six leopards, one snow leopard and one black panther, all of which are endangered species.
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Viewing hours for Java are 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 4-12 and children age 3 and under are free.
