flashpoint:

You almost have to feel sorry for Gov. Jim Gibbons.

You almost have to feel sorry for Gov. Jim Gibbons. He is like a guy standing on an ice floe in a freezing sea as the ground continues to melt around him and his base erodes. The shrinking began about midnight on Jan. 1, 2007, and has been continuing unabated, with the governor having little solid footing after his tragicomic budget proposal unveiling last month. And this week, even the right wing brought some heat that made Gibbons even more of an island. Despite the governor’s assertion that he included the room tax in his budget because voters approved it, the national group, Americans for Tax Reform, let loose, saying he had “broken his promise to all Nevadans.” He can’t make anyone happy. You almost have to feel sorry for him. Almost.
