LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Only real question is: Does man cause global warming?
Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
Please put an end to this global warming debate. Of course there is global warming — look at the signs.
The only question there should be is the following: Is global warming caused by man? I believe it is.
I have two questions for the naysayers. Let’s go back 150 years. How many asphalt roads were there? How many concrete buildings were there?
OK, so now in the summertime when temperatures peak, the asphalt/concrete is absorbing the heat of the day, and then at night the heat is released to rise in the atmosphere.
Many times this heat rises, so far only to be hit by an inversion layer in the atmosphere, thus trapping the heat. So the question shouldn’t be: Is there global warming? There is. The real question should be: Is global warming man-made? Get it straight, people.

Those buildings and roads do not create heat, they store it and give it off during the night. It is the sun not man that created that heat. Dr. John Christy of the University of Alabama Huntsville, a climate scientist, over the years has taken temperatures both in the cities and out in the country side. He found that although cities have a heat sink effect, the temperatures away from the cities were not abnormal. The climate alarmists love to use the city temperatures as proof that the world is melting. Dr Richard Lindzen of MIT, another climate scientist, has found that as the temperature has risen since we came out of the little ice age more heat is being released into space and not being trapped.
I'm sure some genius is going to spout some garbage about these two scientists gotta be in the pay of the oil and coal companies. They aren't, but if they were what difference does it make. Many of the scientists in the Climategate scandal got money from oil companies too while collecting tens of millions in taxpayer dollars. They were all set to collect from green industries as soon as they got government money. Dr Pachuri, the railroad engineer with a PHD in economics, the head of the UN IPCC that claims were all gonna die from global warming, is tied to all kinds of organizations that stand to benefit from climate panic. He even has a company that helps oil companies recover oil from unproductive wells. Do yourself a favor and Google Pachuri, big Al, and Maurice Strong to see where the big bucks and power are flowing. Set aside a lot of time. There is plenty of stuff to read.
I'm sure our resident panic monger will be on to quote realclimate.org. Let's discuss realclimate. The emails from Climategate show conclusively that realclimate in reality is little more than their house organ. Gavin Schmidt, the main man at realclimate, is a mathemetician not a climate scientist. He works for NASA and claims that he works on the site during his off hours yet a large amount of his postings to the site are during working hours. Hours when he is on the taxpayers dime. The server for realclimate is in an office of a subsidiary of Fenton Communications. Fenton is well known for being well paid by environmental groups to do wildly successful campaigns, hatchet jobs really where they make it up as they go, to destroy industries and products environmentalists have it in for. Fenton ruined many industries and products while enhancing the power and stature of environmental groups by peddling lies.

This should not be about belief it need to be about facts.
We are trying to fix something that we have no facts on what to do. The Copenhagen conference has global warming alarmist (GWA) with clearly different views on what must be done to fix the problem.
In fact the UN Copenhagen conference papered over differences in the end by "Take Note" of a non-binding 5-Nation (out of 193 nations) white paper with incomplete "National Actions Appendices" the weakest path of allowing a temperature rise of 2.0 C. Even the arrangement, known as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, or REDD, industries that create carbon emissions essentially pay impoverished nations to maintain their rainforests by buying pollution allowances from them was NOT signed.
If the science is to be believed after extreme cost and upheaval it will not work. The US is rejecting UN legal enforcement penalties; China is refusing to accept any kind of international verification monitoring of its emissions levels.
When CO2 was initially measured and recorded back in 1958 (more than 50 years after the stated start of Global Warming) it was 315 ppm.
The most aggressive goal currently is just 350 ppm (last seen in 1989 about 100 year into the currently Global Warming cycle).
What the scientist cannot say with any certainty is that if we limit the CO2 ppm to a particular level that the temperature will be limited to 2.0 C.
Currently CO2 is at 390 ppm and climbing and yet the US (Obama) and most developed countries are looking to achieve a 2 C rise by the US reducing release of GW gases to 17% below 2005 rates (or about 3% below 1990 levels) which will not change global warming numbers as postulated by some scientist.
The Obama tactic to achieve reductions is to put in place a speculative derivative market that will only make John Paulson and George Soros rich.
Not to over state the oblivious but to eliminate something just ban any "new" use, and reduce regulation on acceptable replacement technology like nuclear power.
What has never been considered is a technology driven shift off of carbon and methanol sources. While Obama and Steven Chu dither China is advancing clean coal technology. Xu Shisen has advances in bringing down the cost of stripping out greenhouse-gas emissions from burning coal.
The government's investment to date has been too narrowly focused on government selected winner and losers.

Let's be clear. The US Supreme Court gave the EPA the right to exercise command and control over all air quality issues including green house gases, based on the science that the Global Warming Alarmist presented.
Lisa Jackson, Obama's EPA administrator "Proudly" announced that she would use her ability to makeup and write whatever rules are necessary to blackmail Congress into passing the CAP and TRADE law. After which EPA could still write rules under the clean air act AND - TAX and SPECULATE would still be in place in parallel.
Why is the Obama/George Soros's/John Paulson Tax, Cap and Speculate bill to only way to go?
Why have we not initiated carbon eating reforestation and algae farm efforts that would meet the goal? Iron powder dumped into the ocean promotes the rapid growth of plankton. Plankton eats CO2,
Why are we not cutting back on methane generators (14 time the impact of CO2) like cows and pigs and several industries?
Why are we not cutting back on Nitrogen Trifluoride an industrial gas 17,000 times more impactive.
Why are we not building the 130 US nuclear power plants that would meet the goal and eliminate fossil plants?
Why are we not pushing the immediately a transition from coal and oil to natural gas which has a very small carbon footprint
Why are we not banning family pets.
Why are we not pushing chemical processes to lock up Carbon Dioxide in other compounds? scientists think they could do it in a very short time using a process called mineral carbonation. In this approach, carbon dioxide is compressed, heated and then mixed with a mineral such as serpentine or olivine and a chemical catalyst to form limestone-like rock (aka calcium carbonate).
Why is it all about the George Soros/John Paulson Hedge Fund money opportunities?
Future:
"Banning family pets"?. You must be kidding. WTF?
Lets just ban humans while we are at it. We fart also!
The global warming alarmist (GWA)claim that the family pet carbon footprint is the same as the family SUV - you can not make this stuff up - well maybe you can - that the point the GWAs do not know.
First, it is not "global warming" anymore it is "climate change". You did not get the memo. I got a memo from Gore. It also had some ad about a new video that he is promoting. He has already burn throw the $100 million that he made in the last decade.
Global termperatures have declined for the last 10 years.
Get with the program....it is "climate change". That way if the temp goes up you are covered. If it goes down you are covered.
Global warming? This is one of the coldest winters in recorded history.
Wailer Kipper wants me to look at the signs...
The only signs I see are the "Your Stimulus Money at Work" signs posted by Obama for Obama.
I believe the Kipper has been standing too long on asphalt highways during the Summer...
If these global warming activists would keep their mouths shut, the Earth would probably cool 2 degrees.
Liberals and Leftists "cause" Climate Derangement Syndrome.
Larry: Happy New Year! In 2010, Reid will lose and only get 38% of the vote.
It is hard not to say that humans are NOT contributing to climate change. We cut down trees, build roads and giant skyscrapers that trap heat. We also pump lots of gases into the atmosphere.
But how much are we effecting the environment relative to natural forcings? If we are causing the warming what is the smartest way to deal with the problem? Cap and Trade and trying to stop carbon emissions in their tracks are not a smart answer.
I should note that 1) The earth was warmer than this 1,000 years ago -- no disaster and 2) There are bigger disasters that have already befallen humanity -- like everything associated with poverty.
Fighting climate change the way environmentalists want will only keep the poor, poor. That means millions of humans will die every year from malnutrition, starvation, malaria, indoor smoke inhalation and more.
Cap-n-trade won't change things -- it's just another moneymaking scheme for Gore & Co.
If we seriously wanted to tackle the issue of pollution & it's impact, it could be done much simpler and more directly through our regulatory structure & trade policies. Free up solar, wind, nuclear, bio & natural gas alternatives; clamp down on imported oil (tariffs); tighten up mpg standards; zone locales such that urban density is increased and sprawl restricted; restrict trade with countries that don't approximate our environmental (and safety) standards. While these changes won't profit Gore & Co., they would do more to reduce pollution & its impact than cap-n-trade ever will.
"The US Supreme Court gave the EPA the right to exercise command and control over all air quality issues ..."
Future -- actually Congress did that. All the U.S. Supremes can do is define their powers in the context of a lawsuit.
NLV-Indy,
Taxing imported gas is a bad idea. We need the imported gasoline to keep gas prices down. Requiring higher MPGs is also a bad idea unless you want to sink The Big Three. They are all losing boatloads of money on their fuel efficient cars. No body wants tiny little Chevy Aveos.
Increasing urban density is also a bad idea. Americans hate high density urban living. Places that try to artificially create that (smart growth) end up with more traffic jams, higher taxes, more poverty, and a higher cost of living.
Restricting trade is ALWAYS a bad idea. Not only do you hurt them you hurt yourself. Prices for all sorts of commodities will go up. Worse still, it sets off trade wars that closes borders to your OWN exports. Besides, the last time the first world set off a major trade war we had two world wars not long after.
But yes, cap and trade is a very bad idea.
"actually Congress did that."
-------------------------------
Technically that is true - With such an inept group they did not know what the un intended consequences were going to be.
The first Clean Air Act was the Air Pollution Control Act of 1955, followed by the Clean Air Act of 1963, the Air Quality Act of 1967, the Clean Air Act Extension of 1970, and Clean Air Act Amendments in 1977 and 1990.
The Clean Air Act is one of a number of pieces of legislation relating to the reduction of smog and air pollution in general.
The use by the US EPA to enforce global warming was never specific in the law and was extended by the court because of lawsuits by the GWAs.
Here's the truth. Global warming started at the end of the last Ice Age. Boy I didn't know they had SUV's back then.
Is the writer like 12 years old or what?
As far as scientists can tell our earth has had 6 ice ages to date, and if they missed other clues the earth has had more.
In the mid seventies we were told that we were slipping into another ice age because of the unusally uncommon longer colder winters that were taking place.
Now we are being told that we are drifting towards global warming with weather around the world not exactly proving this theory.
When we have scientists working with politicians to try and make the world believe a certain theory, you know that the information they give us should be taken lightly.
When we see politicians passing bills, like the cap and trade bill, we should automatically put up warning signs that their reason for passing these bills is for lining their pockets to keep the heat in.
Politics and science just don't mix.
