LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Replacing Reid would be a bad move for Nevada

Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 | 2:03 a.m.

Many Nevadans have very short memories, and they have quickly forgotten how we got into this present state of affairs (bankruptcies, home foreclosures, loss of property values, loss of jobs, etc.).

A second Great Depression was narrowly avoided and yet we hear murmurs of “throw the present bums out.”

Ask yourself what is the alternative. Bring back the Republicans? Have we so quickly forgotten that the eight years before 2009 have been among the worst in our nation’s history?

Also, the Yucca Mountain project is still out there. The small state of Nevada’s current political power is directly tied to Harry Reid being the majority leader of the U.S. Senate.

If he were removed from office, we go back to being almost powerless. Once again there would be a ready mark for the “Screw Nevada” activists in the U.S. Congress.

We must not allow our emotions to control our actions, instead allow our God-given common sense to be our guide. Don’t permit so-called party loyalty to cause you to vote for something that is clearly against your own best interest.
