LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
People lose out when they elect career politicians
Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
Regarding Michael K. Casler’s Monday letter, headlined “Public service has become self-serving”:
Mr. Casler is my hero! No truer words could ever be written. These lifetime politicians, whether they are Democrats or Republicans, are the reason we get nothing for our “representation” except sweetheart deals and political payoffs.
The bill just passed by the Senate is a bonanza for the insurance companies and their lobbyists. This time it is the Democrats “doing business” with big insurance and pharmaceutical companies. The middle class and small business — whose premiums will explode — have been sold out again.
We, as citizens of this great country, need to somehow get term limits back on the front burner and stop this nonsense. Twenty years ago the idea of term limits was a hot issue. We need to rekindle that flame and get these “career” politicians such as Sens. Harry Reid, Ben Nelson, Orrin Hatch and Mitch McConnell out of the way so we can again realize the greatness of America.

Get the money and favors out of politics and you've solved the problem.
Just dumping anyone who has spent time in Washington is counter-intuitive and assumes that those who haven't spent 20 years there are squeaky clean.
Here's a clue, Mr. Schillmoeller, they are all politicans. The fresh faces and the tired old men? All of them are politicians. Things will not get "better" until the money and favors are removed from the process.
The problem is not whether the people in government are new or experienced. The problem is bribery. Political contributions are simply bribes. We pretend otherwise when we call it "free speech" or anything else. Frankly, I'd prefer my government run by professionals with experience rather than by a continuing turnover of freshmen. End corruption the same way industry does. Major companies forbid their buyers, or anyone with decision making authority regarding a purchase, from taking any favors from a salesman or any company they do business with. The federal government requires that same forbearance from its employees. Congressmen, the president and supreme court justices, should not be permitted to accept "donations", favors, hospitality (including hunting trips), from salesmen (lobbyists) or any corporation that might either benefit or be hurt by legislation or decisions.
The lobbyists like stupid newcomers. This is a guy regurgitating Glen Beck. I predict Beck will melt down this year.
It's the "m red" talk radio show...
Phone in any questions that you might have about why we should not let Conservatives host radio or television programs...
The "m red" will have you spinning just like those phonograph records of past...
Folks:
We need to face the fact that we will never see term-limits on the federal level without amending the Constitution. And how does the Constitution get amended?
The most common way is for Congress to pass a bill with 2/3 majority of both houses for admendment, have the President sign it and then 3/4 of the states (38) ratify it. Is there anyone out there who believes Congress is going to pass such a bill?
There is another way to amend the Constitution. The legislature of 2/3 of the states (34) need to request a convention for amending the Constitution. Any amendment coming out of such a convention would still need 38 states for ratification.
We're not going to get term-limits nor get the money out of politics without amending the Constitution. This is precisely why the debate for term-limits has died.
Democrats should get over Palin, Bush and Cheney? You imbeciles don't get it. The entire country is desperately trying to "get over" the disaster that was Bush/Cheney". In eight years they ruined us economically, devastated the populace and infrastructure of a sovereign nation for no valid reason, and nearly destroyed our moral leadership in world affairs. America will not "get over" the Bush/Cheney wrecking crew for decades, if ever.
Palin, on the other hand, is nothing to get over. The country saw that one coming and skirted that disaster. A mountain, a hill, you have to get over. A pit, like the one Bush/Cheney dropped us in to, is something you must avoid, because when you fall in, you need help getting out.
Today, Democrats are thrilled by the rouged one. We applaud and encourage her in every way. It is our fervent hope that she makes a run for POTUS in 2012. The GOP machine will never accept her and will back a party loyalist such as Mit Romney. When she is rejected, Democrats will encourage Palin to join with the other outsider, Ron Paul, and to enter the fray under the banner of The Libertarian Party, The Conservative Party USA or The Modern Whig Party, or the one I like, The Boston Tea Party.
To reiterate, Democrats have no desire to "get over" Sarah. In fact, it's the GOP who devoutly wish McCain never brought her out of obscurity. She will be the Albatross around their neck, their Ralph Nader. Sarah Palin will serve to keep a Democrat in the White House for the next decade and a half. We love her.
Isn't that Stan just a sweetheart?
Stan is throwing out more smoke then my first Lionel train...
Stan opines that the WHOLE county is desperately trying to "get over" the disaster of George Bush.
But, push the smoke away and Public Policy Polling found that voters prefer Obama to George W. Bush by only a six-point margin.
What? How can this be? What has happened? You mean that the whole country did not buy into Obama's promises of governing from the middle and all of the other broken promises that Obama had made?
After less then one year in office Obama has the lowest public rating of any President in history.
Wow... In less then one year the majority of Americans are tired of Obama's weak leadership and broken campaign promises.
It will be interesting how many Democrat Congressmen will be using Obama's popularity to try to get themselves reelected this coming November.
Hey Stan, keep that smoke a coming. That way we can see exactly how afraid Liberals are that they will lose the majority in Congress this year and the Presidency in two years...
... and then...it's the Republicans turn...
Republicans are afraid of Democrats.
They got their clocks cleaned and lost
their power.
Democrats will run this country for many
years to come.
Quit crying, Larry, it's over for the GOP.
teamster is correct when he wrote:
Democrats will ruin this country for many
years to come...
By the way there teamster. My clock has not been cleaned for a long time...
The minority GOP LOST IT'S POWER and has
nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
It's over.
Hey teamster, I think you have penned a song there...
Harry, it's over...
Nowhere to run...
Nowhere to hide...
It's over...
Yes, it's over...
Back to Searchlight...
It's over...
2010 it's over...
Go ahead and add a few lines yourself there teamster...
I'd hate to be in your shoes, Larry.
Your desperation is showing.
Nope, that's one of Larry's "Arguments of Substance," teamster.
That poor schmuck isn't even bright enough to write a coherent argument.
Joseph--This is one of the most overused statements in politics. There's no such thing as a non career politician. Are any of the Republicans who have a shot at the nomination promising to only serve one term? Give me a break.
Harry Reid has made a career of serving Nevada and bring back billions of dollars to the state, and now the whole country pays attention to Nevada because of the power he has. What's the negative?
