Highs in the 60s today for Las Vegas

Temperatures above normal through the weekend

Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 | 6:22 a.m.

A warm weather show is booked to play for the next several days in Las Vegas.

Featuring temperatures in the low 60s and a few clouds, today's weather is being choreographed by a dry westerly flow moving over the region, says the National Weather Service.

A high-pressure system will build up Thursday over the Las Vegas Valley, raising the curtain on mostly clear skies and above-normal temperatures through the weekend, the weather service said.

This morning's temperatures were starting out at 41 degrees at 5:56 a.m. at McCarran International Airport. The normal low for today's date at McCarran is 36 degrees and the record low is 23 degrees, set in 1964.

Around the valley, temperatures just before 6 a.m. were 43 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 38 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport and 37 at Nellis Air Force Base.

Forecasters say temperatures in the valley will rise to 49 degrees by 9 a.m., to 57 degrees by noon and top out at 61 degrees by 3 p.m. The normal high for today's date is 57 degrees and the record high is 74 degrees, set in 1980.

Tonight, temperatures will fall to 54 degrees by 6 p.m., to 48 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 46 degrees by midnight, the weather service said.

Thursday's morning low will be 44 degrees and Thursday's afternoon high will be 63 degrees, forecasters said.

Afternoon temperatures will continue to climb into the mid 60s through the weekend, with Friday's high near 65 degrees, Saturday's at 64 and Sunday's high near 63, forecasters said.
