Lee Canyon
How far from Las Vegas: About 50 miles from downtown.
Why: Relatively close, but a world apart from the desert. Skiing and snowboarding at Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, at the end of State Route 156, also known as Lee Canyon Road. Sledding and tubing at Foxtail Picnic Area, approximately 19 miles up Lee Canyon Road from U.S. 95. Play in the snow in the meadow about a mile beyond Foxtail.
Why now: Fresh snow. Check road conditions at safetravelusa.com/nv before you leave home to see if tire chains or four-wheel drive vehicles are necessary.
Directions, admission costs and more info: skilasvegas regarding the ski resort.
