Runners will be taking over some of the area's busiest streets — including the entire Strip for much of Sunday — for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon. More than 25,000 people are expected to participate in the race, which will also shut down some public bus routes.

The road closures are scheduled to begin between 3 and 5:30 a.m. for the race, which begins at 6:15 a.m. Affected streets are expected to reopen gradually as the final runners pass. All roads should be reopened by 1:30 p.m.

Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed in both directions from Garces Avenue downtown to Sunset Road south of the Strip.

In addition, parts of Twain Avenue, Decatur Boulevard, Hacienda Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard will be closed along the race route.

Motorists trying to go east on Russell Road, Sahara Avenue, Charleston Boulevard, Spring Mountain Road, Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue from Interstate 15 will not be able to cross Las Vegas Boulevard.

Race organizers say the best way to bypass the closures is to take the Desert Inn Super Arterial, which goes under Las Vegas Boulevard and over I-15.

If needed, motorists will have access to homes, businesses and churches along the affected routes by using side streets and special-access passes for residents of affected neighborhoods.

Strip resorts will be accessible by using side roads or by special-access lanes on Las Vegas Boulevard.

A complete list of closures, reopening times and instructions on how to get around the closures is available on the race’s Web site.

The Regional Transportation Commission’s public bus system will also be impacted.

There will be no Deuce bus service on the Strip from 2:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and routes 101 (Rainbow), 102 (Jones), 103 (Decatur), 104 (Valley View/Torey Pines), 108 (Paradise), 116 (Koval/Industrial), 119 (Simons), 201 (Tropicana), 202 (Flamingo), 203 (Spring Mountain/Twain), 204 (Sahara) and 206 (Charleston) will be affected.

A complete list of the bus route changes and closures is available on the RTC’s Web site.
