CARSON CITY – The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled that an 11-year-old Las Vegas girl can be judged a delinquent for severely injuring a 6-month-old baby.
Attorneys for the girl, identified as Robin P., said the child abuse law couldn't be applied to an 11-year-old. They argued that could mean one youngster hitting another could be judged guilty of child abuse, which attorneys said would be an absurd result.
But the court said there is no age limit in the law, which has a goal to “protect minors from abuse, neglect and endangerment regardless of the age of the offender.”
The court said if the Legislature intended to limit the law only to adult offenders, it would have expressly done so.
Family Court Judge William O. Voy ruled Robin P. committed child abuse resulting in substantial bodily harm and placed her on 36 months of probation.
The mother of Robin was in the Henderson jail and the juvenile was placed in the custody of another woman at the Sierra Vista Apartments.
In September 2007 Robin was with the baby, who suffered a skull fracture and subdural and retina hemorrhages. Robin initially denied any responsibility for the injuries, but later admitted dropping the baby nine times.
Robin suggested her statements to authorities were involuntary but the court rejected that argument.
The court said “sufficient evidence supports the district court’s conclusion that appellant (Robin) knew the wrongfulness of her actions.”

Hey rejco100...Who cares if she "understands" the concepts of law? The little girl is a bad seed! She's evil! My daughter is three years younger than this girl and would NEVER do this to a baby because it would "hurt". Shoot, she wouldn't have done it at 3 years old!! Lots of taxpayer dollars are gonna be spent on this evil one, just like we spend it on all the teens and grown-ups in the prison system now.
Granted the 11 yo is directly responsible and possibly taking after her mother, where's the reprecussions for the parents come in at? Clearly leaving your infant child in the care of an eleven year old long enough to be dropped 9 times should qualify for some level of child endangerment and/or neglect.. who was babysitting the 11 yo that was babysitting?
I'm afraid we haven't seen nothing yet and we all know
it starts with the parents and even the parents, parents.
We just had the 17 year old that cold blooded murdered his little brother, and the 15 year old girl that murdered the little neighbor kid because she wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.
The girl here in town having babies and throwing them in dumpsters after killing them and the list goes on.
The really sad thing about it is none of them showed or felt any kind of remorse for what they did.
Today's youth are all living life in a movie or a video game that they can't rewind or press a button to start over in.
This isn't the first time this troubled young person has had problems. It's just the first time anybody noticed...
Where were the parents?
