WASHINGTON -- Midway through Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s telephone town hall on health care this afternoon, it's all very civil.
Reid reiterated his support for the public option.
"I’ve told people, whoever will listen, I’m in favor of the public option," he said.
And he told a story of being stopped in the grocery store in Nevada by a shopper who had a get-government-out-of-my-Medicare comment, which has been so widespread during the health care debate.
The morale of the story, as Reid told it, was, "Stop complaining about government health care. Government health care works pretty good."

Sounds fun, is there a radio station I can listen to it on? Or a TV channel where I can watch it?
This is a better forum because the birthers, birchers, bealchers and buffoons ginned up by hate radio are kept from disrupting a public meeting.
I heard a bunch of winners on Las Vegas hate-talk radio complain that they wanted priority in getting H1N1 vaccinations. This is a government vaccination from a government program, if you don't like government, don't get the shot. Remember "Government is part of the problem, not part of the solution, blah, blah"
Only people that supported Obama should be vaccinated, the rest of you, put on your tin-foil hats to protect you and turn up Glen Bleck.
Maybe so but it would be nice to be able to listen without having to sit on the phone!
You couldn't pay me enough to get me to take that swine flu vaccination! Perhaps you haven't heard but it's killing people and I fully agree with you that only Obama supporters should be vaccinated!
I signed up for the tele-townhall but did not receive any instructions for a call-in number. Did anyone else hear from Harry prior to the meeting?
What a staged joke that call was... he only took staged questions. I found it very interesting that the last caller even pointed out that of course she got called for a question "since she is a registered Democrat". What a joke... Of course things went well for Reid, he wouldn't let anyone talk who wasn't pre-approved. Pathetic...
Isn't name calling and labeling people great? It really adds to the discussion at hand.
The morale of the story, as Reid told it, was, "Stop complaining about government health care. Government health care works pretty good."
But wait just a minute... I don't want health care that only works pretty good!!!
I want to know how much money Ted Kennedy spent to stay alive for the past year under his taxpayer provided private insurance plan.
I tried to get on the town hall, and registered for it, leaving my cell phone number. The town hall called my house number (I was not there). Then, a robo-call came to my cell phone telling me Harry was sorry he couldn't reach me. I didn't give him my house number -- gave him the cell number on purpose so he could reach me. Oh, well. I did want to ask him how he planned to pay for the public option, as well as the 9 trillion dollar debt being run up. I would like to find a transcript of the town hall. I was resentful of Harry labeling anybody who opposed him an "evil-monger." I gladly took on the label and told his email I wanted to speak to him courteously, being an "evil-monger," but we got our wires crossed somehow. So sad. I also wanted to know if Harry was going to opt for the public option when he gets a chance and give up his Congress plan.
I signed up and he never called me! Anyone else have this problem?
I got a call, was put on hold and then it disconnected me...
If sleazy Harry doesn't have the courage to have a LIVE town hall meeting then I don't have the time for Pravda type questions. How about he run his campaign on the phone!
Did anyone really think that this was going to be anything but a staged show for this moron? He is just ignoring the will of the people of Nevada. Harry Reid has his personal agenda and does not represent his constituents. Harry Reid is an idiot!
That's okay, Harry won't be around much longer!
He will lose his Senate seat in 2010.
i got a call to participate in the tele-tubby town hall with reid. i had not registered to participate, but have sent reid several emails stating my position on several subjects. i am a registered republican, so still can't figure out why they called me. i was told to press 0 if i wanted to ask a question, which i did. someone came on the line, asked me where i was from and what my question was. i told him and was put back on hold at which time i could here what was been said.
i was on line for a little over an hour, during, which time he addressed about 20 questions, repeating he had to leave early for kennedy's funeral. and, no, i never got to ask my question.
i tried to keep track of pro and con questions being asked, but that wasn't possible because even though initially the question sounded 'con', it was asked in such a softball way, allowing reid to give a softball answer that, in my opinion, they were set-up questions so that they could be covered by a 'friendly'.
reid did state that no republicans wanted any kind of health care reform. and that the dems would push it through with the 'nuclear' option, which i thought was only to be used for budgets issues, but reid stated it could be used for education and health reform. i had not heard that one before.
