  • WHERE: Ovation Lounge at Green Valley Ranch
  • ADMISSION: Free; 938-0889

Las Vegas entertainers Earl Turner and Lani Misalucha, headlining in “Voices” at the Las Vegas Hilton, are among the celebrities who will entertain at a charity event for the Children’s Service Guild of Southern Nevada this weekend at Green Valley Ranch.

Also on the roster of performers are Kelly Clinton, impressionist Larry G. Jones and sleight of hand magician Stephane Vanel.

“Stars Among the Angels,” an afternoon show, is free but donations are accepted. For $15 guests may attend a “celebrity meet and greet” cocktail party after the show.

Musical director and keyboardist Michael Shane and his 11-piece Metropolitan Club Orchestra will back up the entertainers for the event, the fourth in a series of charitable events to raise money for the organization that provides refuge for children placed in protective custody.

The benefits are being recorded and at a later date will be televised locally and nationally. The shows are produced and hosted in part by Jon Fondy, a 28-year veteran who has produced over 600 TV shows and 400 live events.

“Our vision is to raise awareness and funds for the Children’s Service Guild,” says Shane. “For 40 years members of the Guild have collected contributions to help children who have been touched by the Clark County Family Court System.”

The Guild provides medical, dental and vision care, clothing, toys, bedding and physical support.

The shows rotate among various Station casinos, which are donating space. Upcoming events will be at Sunset Station on Sept. 20, Santa Fe Station on Oct. 18 and Boulder Station on Nov. 22. The series of shows will end on Dec. 20 at Green Valley Ranch with a gala holiday event hosted by Steve Schorr, vice president of Cox Communications, which will donate the production crew and airtime in five cities throughout the Southwest.

What began as an idea for a single fundraiser to help children in need has blossomed into what may become a perpetual fundraising event.

“Michael Shane came to me with an idea for a benefit during the holiday season – the slow period between the National Finals Rodeo and New Year’s Eve,” says Fondy. “Michael basically said a lot of entertainers in town want to get involved in charities but don’t know how to go about it, how to get entertainment community involved.”

Fondy says his “little back alley shows” have been of such high quality that “audiences’ mouths would be hanging open after the shows.”

“People can come out to the show after church, have lunch and then enjoy $100 show for free and when we pass the bucket around maybe through in a couple of bucks for the kids if they can afford it,” Fondy says.

To date the shows have raised more than $2,200.
