Metro: Foul play not suspected after body found in trunk

Body found

Metro Police say a body found in the trunk of a Ford Taurus on Wednesday near McCarran International Airport is that of an adult female and no foul play is suspected.

Officers arrived about 3:55 p.m. Wednesday to the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 6005 S. Eastern Ave., near Russell Road, after a security guard detected a strong odor from the car.

Investigators learned that the car was linked to a missing person reported on July 25, police said.

Officers saw a decomposing body inside the trunk of the vehicle, which is accessible through a fold-down backseat, police said.

The car had been parked in the same space since July 24, police learned during their investigation. There had been no contact with the missing woman since the report was made in July.

The preliminary investigation didn't reveal any signs of foul play, police said. The woman could have crawled into the trunk, or something else may have happened to her, they said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy on the woman today, but results and her identity have not been revealed, a spokeswoman for the coroner's office said.

The identity of the woman is being withheld until next of kin are notified and the coroner has positive identification, the spokeswoman said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555, or Metro's Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521.
