Ameristar Casinos saw a 16 percent drop in profit during the second quarter of 2009, the Las Vegas-based casino operator reported today.

Net income fell to $14.3 million, or 25 cents per share, compared to $17 million, or 29 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2008.

The company reported a 5.9 percent drop in net revenue from $328.1 million in the prior year period to $308.9 million in the second quarter of 2009. The company said net revenue fell at all of its properties except its Black Hawk, Colo., property.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization improved 6.5 percent to $83.1 million compared to $78 million in the second quarter of 2008.

Ameristar owns eight casinos in Jackpot, Nev., Indiana, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa and Mississippi.

Shares of Ameristar tumbled 10.5 percent today to $18.03.
