William Hoxie
William Hoxie
William L. "Bill" Hoxie, 89, died April 24 in Boulder City.
Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Weldona, Colo., to William and Maude Hoxie, he was raised and settled in Arvada, Colo. He married his wife, Elsie, on Nov. 9, 1940, in Castle Rock, Colo.
After being drafted into the Army Jan. 5, 1941, he was sent to the Asiatic Pacific theater, returning to the United States May 1944 with the rank of first sergeant. His medals included Asiatic Pacific Campaign, American Defense Service and Good Conduct. After his service, he and his family settled in the San Fernando Valley of California.
He worked for Sierra Distributing Co. for 25 years. His hobbies included riding his motorcycles, riding his dune buggy in the desert and playing cards.
He and his wife moved to Boulder City in 2001 to be near their daughter Judy. He was a member of Grace Community Church. After his wife passed away in 2007, he moved to the Nevada State Veterans Home.
He is survived by his children Judy Craven and her husband, Wes, of Boulder City, and Robert Hoxie and his wife, Delfina, of Albany, Ore.; grandchildren Stephen Hoxie of Palmdale, Calif., Samantha Hoxie of Corvalis, Ore., Heather Doan of Simi Valley, Calif.; great-grandchildren Brandon Doan of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Haleigh Hoxie of Palmdale, Calif., and Courtney Schulte of Los Angeles.
Funeral arrangements, which are pending, will be private.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Nevada State Veterans Home, 100 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005, or Grace Community Church, 1150 Wyoming St., Boulder City, NV 89005.

Alton Dean Jensen, 81, of Boulder City died April 27.
Jensen was born May 9, 1927, in Centerfield Utah, the son of Alton H. Jensen and Arvilla Roylance. He graduated from Gunnison Valley High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the South Pacific during World War II. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Utah and enrolled in Utah Technical College, where he studied architectural drafting and attended flight training.
He was commissioned into the U. S. Army Reserves and served in the Civil Air Patrol. After apprenticeship, he started and developed his company, Alton Dean Jensen, Architect, in Salt Lake City, which he later relocated to the Las Vegas area.
He is well known for his design of numerous community and civic buildings, business and residential structures, and design and remodel work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all throughout the western United States.
He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, the LDS Church, American Institute of Architects and the Mooney Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anita; sons Dale (wife Lori) and Ryan; brother, Clayne; three grandchildren, Dane, Eric and Keri.
He was preceded in death by his son Bradley.
A viewing will be held May 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church, 916 5th St., Boulder City. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., May 2 in the Gunnison City Cemetery, Gunnison, Utah.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lend-A-Hand of Boulder City, 400 Utah St., Boulder City, Nevada, 89005.

Viola C. Means
Viola C. "Vi" Means, 95, of Boulder City, died April 24 in Las Vegas.
She was born August 24, 1913, in Los Angeles, to Levi and Lillian Cruzon.
Means was a retired office manager. She had lived in Boulder City for three years. She had previously lived in Meadview, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Means of Boulder City; son Robert Livingston of San Jose, Calif.; daughter, Diana Ingersoll and her husband, Jim of Florida; six grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:40 a.m. May 4, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Jude's Ranch For Children, 100 St. Jude's St., Boulder City, NV 89005. Boulder City Family Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Jerald Paiz
Jerald W. Paiz, 47, died April 8 at his home in Henderson.
The lifetime Southern Nevada resident was born Feb. 5, 1962, in Las Vegas and was a security guard.
He is survived by wife, Mollie, of Henderson; children Sara, Joseph and Michael Paiz of Henderson; mother Anna Paiz-Hughes and stepfather Robert Hughes of Goldendale, Wash.; sisters Racie Paiz of Washington, D.C., Teddie Paiz-Hughes of California and Raquel Mirza-Hughes of Goldendale, Wash.; and brothers David Paiz of Bolivia and Ted Paiz of Las Vegas.
Services were held April 14 at Palm Mortuary-Henderson.

Jerry Simpson
Jerry Simpson, 68, died at home April 21 in Boulder City.
He is survived by his son Bud Simpson, his daughter Jennifer Simpson, as well as grandson, Christopher.
A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. May 3 at the Boulder City Elks Lodge, 1217 Nevada Highway.
