LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Fox is the fast food of cable news programs
Sunday, April 19, 2009 | 2:03 a.m.
In response to George Pucine’s Thursday letter to the editor, in which he presents facts regarding Fox’s No. 1 status in cable news:
No one should take from Fox News’ high ratings that ratings alone means that what it broadcasts is the truth. It is a bit like saying if McDonald’s is the most popular restaurant, it must mean its food is healthy.
For that matter, take the example of “The Daily Show.” A 2007 study by Pew Research showed that viewers of “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last. And yet, “The Daily Show” has half the daily viewership of Fox News. Quite a contradiction, especially when the host of “The Daily Show” refers to it as a “fake” news program!
Just because a few hangers-on still flock desperately to Fox News, and even though it may be enough to give it No. 1 status in cable news viewership while progressives are splitting their viewership among the other news sources, it doesn’t mean Fox equals truth. After all, more people are watching the combined total of other news sources than are watching Fox. Perhaps there is a reason for that.

Anyone that thinks the Daley show is anything but entertainment is beyond ignorant, they are unable to be educated.
And what is Keith Olbermann? The 'shot of smack' to the wild-eyed, frothing at the mouth liberals?
Fox owns the cable news audience and you can't spin the numbers.
You don't have to 'spin the numbers'. Like the article mentioned (if you bothered reading it), progressives are splitting their news watching among the various networks and cable news stations while conservatives (for the most part) ONLY watch Fox.
Also, Fox News gets great numbers because it isn't just the right wingers tuning in - progressives watch so we're always ready for your (or is it O'Reiley's...or Murdoch's??) 'Talking Points'.
Or sometimes we just enjoy a good laugh. The comparison to McDonald's was pretty good, but I'm thinking more 'All In The Family'. Just a bunch of Archie Bunker types on that network, and the same can be said of their backwards thinking fanbase.
Luckily for the rest of the country, humans only live so long. So if you think conservatives are thinning out now, just wait another 10 or 15 years for more bitter bible thumpin', gun clingin', teabaggin' neocons to kick the bucket.
Yup, conservatives are LITERALLY a dying breed!
*rest of the country does a happy dance*
The survival of the Republican party, or another political party, is essential to our country maintaining our level of Democracy. The two party system is critical for the checks and balances needed for our form of government. Unfortunately the Republican party has positioned itself to attract an ever shrinking base of religious, artificially conservative voters who are more concerned with making others live like THEY want them to live rather than issues of taxes and spending. If the Republicans don't wake up by 2010 the Dems will rule both houses well into the future.
TheSMirk! As you put on your Birkenstocks and gather the last few wisps of hair on your balding head - attempting to reassemble that ponytail of days gone...(and neglecting personal hygiene) I remind you time will once again prove 70% of America despises the hippy ilk lifestyle you so desperately cling to.
As you pound keyboard in all your liberal mangina glory"I say..peace out!
Peace out.
doubledown_deadender;
You're a shining example of a Faux News viewer. Please send me a Hannity "teabagger button". Keep up the good work and the republican party will be the party of NASCAR soon.
This article is Class Prime example A of how the left spins stuff and kool-aid drinkers like Bruchert just drink it down as gospel truth.
Here is the study that is quoting:
http://people-press.org/report/319/publi...
The study itself says: "However, there is no clear connection between news formats and what audiences know."
They grouped the news outlets into 3 groups.
O'Reilly, Colbert, NPR, Jim Lehrer, newspaper internet sites, and Rush was in one group. There was only a 4% spread between the sources which was within the margin of error for the poll.
The 3rd group is network evening shows, online news blogs, local TV news, Fox News and Nework morking shows. That too only had a 4% spread in the rankings which was in the margin of error for the poll.
So be sure to wipe of that kool-aid stain and just a peice of advice.....read the study before quoting it.
When the people who did the study says: "However, there is no clear connection between news formats and what audiences know." It would be helpful to read that first before repeating the DailyKos kool-aid.
Doubledown - sorry to shatter your stereotype, but I'm not an aging hippie. Nor am I going bald. And I dislike sandals of any of any kind, let alone Birkinstocks. More of a Adidas or Puma sneaker guy when wearing casual footwear. And since I go to the gym, I usually shower not once, but twice a day. And if I happen to decide to go run on a treadmill at night for some cardio...you guessed it - a THIRD shower!
I know this is gonna blow your mind...but my way of thinking is 'mainstream' these days, and the neocon way of 'not thinking enough' has been rejected by the wonderful voters of the United States of America.
It sure is enjoyable watching the Linda Blair in The Exorcist complete headspin the teabags are engaging in now that the realization has smacked them square in the face!
Or was that just another Foxbot accidentally teabagging you?
