Fatal crash
A suspected drunken driver suffered critical injuries Friday evening after turning in front of a dump truck in the southwest Las Vegas Valley, fatally injuring his passenger.
Metro Police responded at 7:24 p.m. to the two-vehicle crash at Buffalo Drive and Cactus Avenue. Investigators said a 2006 Ford sedan southbound on Buffalo tried to make a left turn onto Cactus, but was struck by a northbound 2005 Kenworth dump truck.
The driver of the truck wasn't able to stop before colliding with the Ford on its passenger side.
A front-seat passenger, identified only as a 27-year-old Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Michael Baach, 29, of Las Vegas, was being treated for critical injuries at University Medical Center's trauma unit.
Although he remains in the hospital, Baach was booked abstention into the Clark County Detention Center for felony DUI with death.
The driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries. This is the 26th fatal crash this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.

How does this compare to other years?

The name of the man who passed away was Steven Baach... Michael's younger brother.
My prayers are with Mike and the Baack family in this unbelieveable hard time. Steve was such a great person.
Thank you soooo much for getting back to me.
I was praying someone would answer me. You are a good good person in the world! I am so sad to hear it was the drivers brother. How tragic!! I will offer up many prayers for this family.

All the people who we know Mike we are very sad with the news and praying for him and his family.
I want to know if they did found out if it was dui, because I heard that Mike and Steve had bought a case of beer to take to a bbq and that is where the alcohol came from.
Has anyone heard updates about Mike's condition? Can't believe something like this could happen to such good people!! My prayers go out to Mike and his Family.
I went to school with both Mike and Steven. I had a friend ask me about them and I didnt think anything of it. I am so sorry for the family. They really were great people. If anyone hears how Mike is doing please let me know. Thank you and god bless, I will to be praying for them.
I am also a friend from Ohio. Steve will be greatly missed... Any information anyone can give on Michael's condition is much appreciated. I'm praying he pulls through.
