Paintings, tea on the menu at Sun City Summerlin art show
Friday, April 3, 2009 | 4:42 p.m.
Tea will be on the menu at Sun City Summerlin Art Club's 17th Annual Art Show, with the theme "Teahouse of the April Moon." The show will also feature more than 100 works by local artists Saturday and Sunday.
The club is inviting art aficionados to view the works and socialize with more than 40 Sun City artists from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this weekend at the Desert Vista Community Center, 10360 Sun City Blvd.
The art on display will be the best work created in the last year by art club members, said Mary Heinrichs, the show's publicity director. She's a vice president in the art club.
Cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the winners at 11 a.m. Saturday. Awards are given in intermediate and advanced categories, as well as best of show.
The people's choice award will be presented at 2:50 p.m. Sunday. A raffle will follow.
"We have several teachers well known throughout the Las Vegas community and they have each donated a painting," Heinrichs said. The paintings will be raffled off.
The money raised supports the cost of the event.
Show entries will be accepted 9 a.m. to noon Friday. The judges are Las Vegas watercolor artists Walt Herron and Barbara Flanders. All acrylic, watercolor, oil and multi-media paintings are being accepted, with a $5 entry fee.
