Christopher Van Cleef, a retired Metro lieutenant, was discovered dead this morning near train tracks near his Henderson home, acquaintances say.

Van Cleef is one of three retired Metro officers who law enforcement sources say are being investigated by the FBI in connection with fraud involving Las Vegas Valley homeowner associations, construction defect claims and building contractors, among others.

About 8:50 a.m., Henderson Police were called to the railroad tracks near Green Valley Parkway and Warm Springs Road after a person walking a dog found a man dead who had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The Clark County Coroner's office is to determine whether the death was a suicide.

Van Cleef joined Metro in January 1980 and retired in January 2005, after he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
