Man in critical condition after being hit by pickup truck

Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 | 7:09 a.m.

A 44-year-old man suffered critical injuries Sunday night when he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a four-lane Las Vegas street, according to Metro police.

Paul Vargo, Las Vegas, was transported to University Medical Center Trauma, where he was in critical condition, police said.

The accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Sunday on North Nellis Boulevard, north of East Meikle Lane, police said.

The pickup truck, a 1994 Ford Ranger, was traveling south on Nellis in the center lane, going straight at Meikle Lane, when it struck Vargo, who was crossing from west to east across Nellis, police said.

Vargo, who was not in a crosswalk, was hit by the front of the vehicle, which was driven by Armando Duenas-Ramos, 37, Las Vegas, officers said. Duenas-Ramos was not injured, police said.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
