Chance of thunderstorms moves north and east of Las Vegas

Thu, Sep 18, 2008 (7:38 a.m.)

After two days of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the Las Vegas Valley, the moisture plume has moved north and east of Southern Nevada today and clearing should continue through tonight.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected in Lincoln County, north of Las Vegas, and Mohave County in Arizona, but no storms are expected in the valley today, the National Weather Service said. The highs should reach the low 90s, and the average temperature for this time of year is 93 degrees. That was the high in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Relative humidity lingered at 42 percent at 6 a.m., with a dew point of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 90s through the weekend with breezy to windy conditions for Saturday.

While high temperatures could lower into the high 80s or low 90s next week, the weather service said that no rain is expected in the next seven days. Typically, the southeastern flow known as the Southwestern Monsoon is cut off by mid September, and that is what appears to be happening to the moist air that has flowed into the area from the Gulf of Mexico.
