Letter to the editor:

Liberals dumbstruck as Palin goes to bat

Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 | 2:03 a.m.

Jon Ralston, in his Friday column about Sarah Palin, wrote: “I once thought, growing up in snowy Buffalo (it’s no Wasilla), that a good education and hard work were the ticket to success.” Mr. Ralston, however, was in no position to comment as he did when he continued: “But how could my mother know that looking good on camera and reading a sneering, sarcastic speech bereft of substance were the values prized in this country?”

If this were a true statement, Ralston would himself be the daily king for he is the master of sarcasm and the king of liberal sneer.

I think most liberals are hurt, dazed and confused because their opponents have finally realized the only way to deal with the empty-suit rhetoric that has flowed nonstop for the past year from a completely partisan pit bull is to get in the trenches with it and, if necessary, put “lipstick on their partisan pit bull” and expose the fraud: “The senator has no clothes!”

Speaking of liberal pit bulls, isn’t it always easy to put a spin on everything? Does anyone think for a moment that Gov. Palin would have escaped scathing rebuke had she chosen to keep her special-needs child and pregnant teen as private matters, where they belong? Absolutely not; she would have been painted as a scandalous, immoral wench trying to deceive the American public!

Because she shared everything, the liberal pit bulls can claim only that she is using her family as “props.” Sen. Barack Obama appeared with his wife and kids on national TV just the week before. How the tide turns when it comes to the use of “props.” It all depends on who’s using them!

The months that follow will be interesting. Perhaps now that we have the “fairy princess” (or, as she was labeled in Ralston’s column, the pit bull with lipstick) to expose and counter the empty rhetoric, we can focus on the issues and what is truly best for the American people.

Discussion: 9 comments so far…

  1. She may wear lipstick well, but her words smack like snuffle-sounds of more political pig-troughing. Or could it be she is merely an innocent baby barracuda doing her dance for the grand old party boyz who brung her?

I'm not dumbstruck; I'm just trying to figure what the heck she is - or isn't.

  2. Separation of church and state is one of the great things about this country. Keep SP in Alaska.

  3. Dumbstruck? Astonished? Of course!

Get introduces herself as a "reformer" and "maverick" as a "conservative." But if you look behind the curtain, the rhetoric runs contrary to her record.

She's just another borrow and squander Republican who jets off to Washington every year to beg for more federal cash to spend. In February, she requested $200 million in earmarks for the great state of Alaska... after pocketing 26.9 million in earmarks during her tenure as mayor of Wasilla.

"This year she submitted to Congress a list of Alaska projects worth $197.8 million, including $2 million to research crab productivity in the Bering Sea and $7.4 million to improve runway lighting at eight Alaska airports. A spokesman said she cut the original list of 54 projects to 31."

"So while Sen. McCain was going after cutting earmarks in Washington," said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense, "Gov. Palin was going after getting earmarks."

And all that baloney about telling Washington "no thanks" for the Bridge to Nowhere? That's not exactly "straight talk."

"However, as a candidate for governor in 2006, Palin had backed funding for the bridge. After her election, she killed the much-ridiculed project when it became clear the state had other priorities. She said she would use the federal funds to fill those needs."

So the Congress didn't end up funding the bridge, but she sure has heck kept all that cash.

    And spent it.

And her tenure as mayor? She increased taxes on the residents of Wasilla, increased the budget and spending, and increased the debt. Uh, that's the George W. Bush definition of "conservative."

So when she stood on that stage, in front of 38 million television households and told us she was a reformer? Well, there's only one response to that:

    Liar!

  4. For the bridge, againist the bridge but took the money (federal- derived from you and me)... Bet she looks hot in a wet suit complete with lipstick while wind surfing. Come on Pubs defend your celeb cover girl now.

  5. I'm amazed that the VP choice has energized the far-right republicans as if she was the choice for President. Sarah has completely overshadowed McCain to the point you have to wonder who the Republicans are voting for president. McCain even cancelled his solo appearance today, I guess it would be embarassing to show him with no enthusiasm from supporters when solo.

I think it is the duty of all Americans to vet this pseudo President choice. No need to vet McCain as he does not seem to be the one running for president anymore. Sarah certainly brings up extraordinary hypocrisy in McCain's ideology.

  6. Palin has never tried to place her views in the government but to allow people to live their own lives. A democrat member of Congress yesterday in the floor speech during a session of congress said "Jesus was a community organizer and Pontious Pilot was a governor". Now who is putting religion IN government. We need citizen politicians instead of people fighting for the next base of power. I hope Sarah inspires people all over this country to run and change our government. I really hope a regular person replaces harry reid so we can have some common sense in our state instead of "sold to the highest bidder" with our Senator.

  7. I'm just surprised at how gullible the American public is. When people are asked why they like Palin the responses are usually "She's a breath of fresh air", "She's a working mom", "She's so smart and feisty". I don't know how any of that qualifies someone for the 2nd highest position in the country.

Never mind that almost every time she opens her mouth a lie comes out of it, or that she hasn't said anything new or different since the RNC and just keeps on re-using that same speech, or that she will not answer questions from reporters. Or that even though most of those lies have been debunked, she keeps on repeating them!

So lets all be lemings and follow the purty lady in the sassy glasses because, well, she's a mom of 5 so she must be qualified even though she admitted a month ago to not knowing what a VP does.

Or maybe one of these days people will wake up and smell the moose$h!t. One can only dream.

  8. neiman: "Palin has never tried to place her views in the government but to allow people to live their own lives."

Really? So why did she try to get certain library books banned because SHE found them objectionable to HER faith? Why is she adamant about banning ALL abortions because HER faith doesn't permit them?

Is THAT what you mean by "allow[ing] people to live their own lives"?

    Thanks, but no thanks.

And please get over this "Harry Reid" thing. It's just creepy at this point.

  9. It's fun watching you liberals and left leaning Dems self-immolate. First it was the Hillary coronation that went bust. It was then a Barrack coronation that isn't such a sure thing as it was 3 weeks ago. The boy wizard is floundering. Bad choice on your part folks. All of that MoJo is gone now.

You see no matter who wins the election, the conservatives again get the last laugh. If McCain/Palin wins, you liberals go into the "high speed wobbles" trading your your Bush Derangement Syndrome into McCain/Palin Derangement Syndrome. And we'll watch 12 years (McCain 4 years, Palin 8 years) of your insanity on these pages. What hateful citizens you are.

If Barack wins, we'll sit back and watch him renege on most of his promises to you, free health care, getting the troops out of the middle east, new high paying jobs, wind/solar power in 10 years, rebuilding old dead smokestack industries, taxing those evil rich folks. etc.

But look at the bright side. You all will have something to occupy your lberal minds over the next 12 years. ...Hehehehe...you morons
