City airport manager to start in October

The Boulder City Municipal Airport will bring aboard its first airport manager on Oct. 6.

Kerry Ahearn will oversee aircraft and operations and safety rules and regulations, write grants and contracts and act as a liaison to other city employees.

Ahearn is currently an airport operations assistant specialist and noise abatement officer for Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn.

The City Council in January approved the new position after the Airport Advisory Committee found staffing inadequate for four tour operations and more than 200 private aircraft based at the municipal airport.

Brok Armantrout, the city's community development director who serves as airport manager now, said in an e-mail Ahearn has more than 10 years managing both air carrier and general aviation airports.

In Windsor Locks, she coordinates airport operations, inspects areas for safety and maintenance and watches the runways.

She earned her bachelor of science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is a licensed commercial pilot.
