Counties told to print ballots without tax initiative

Secretary of State Ross Miller told county clerks to print ballots without the property tax initiative that a district court judge ruled ineligible on Tuesday, even as proponents of the initiative said they would appeal the decision to the Nevada Supreme Court.

A lawyer for the Proposition 13-style Property Tax Reform Initiative said he will ask the state Supreme Court to keep the tax question on the ballot until it hears the case.

Miller said the Supreme Court had not had any documents filed on Wednesday, and the deadline to print ballots was today.

Joel Hansen, the lawyer for We the People, said: “I think we can reverse that.”

The state teacher’s union successfully argued in district court that signature gatherers improperly filled out affidavits attached to signatures they collected.
