Rally for murdered 19-year-old tonight
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 | 4:09 p.m.
Residents of northeastern Las Vegas will join forces tonight with Metro Police to stop crime in their community after a recent homicide.
The Valley United Initiative along with Metro Police officers from the northeast area command will rally at 6:30 p.m., on the 3900 block of James Paul Avenue.
The man who died, 19-year-old Daniel Delgado of Las Vegas, was sitting in his garage at the time of the shooting on Sept. 1.
Witnesses in the neighborhood reported seeing a man dressed in dark clothing fleeing the scene, police said.
The Valley United Initiative is an outgrowth of the Safe Village Initiative that was formed two years ago in response to gun violence. Residents living in the northeastern valley hope that by coming together and talking about crime and talking to each other, they can reduce violence in their community, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Metro's homicide section at 828-3521.
