Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has said every American has the right to affordable health care.

He would add to and improve the current system of coverage. His plan includes leaving Medicare for the elderly, but providing those who are uninsured or unhappy with their health insurance an affordable plan much like the coverage given to members in Congress.

For those unable to afford the health plan they will receive a subsidy. He believes in guaranteed eligibility and mobility of health insurance independent of the participant's job. To ensure quality of health care, providers would be required to give reports regarding standards, technology and administration. His plan is projected to cut average family's health care costs by $2,500.

  1. If you want a portable health insurance policy why doesn't this newspaper write about Nevada's law which forbids individuals from buying out-of-state insurance policies?

  2. Read his plan for yourself:

Or the Q&A, which goes into detail on how his healthcare plan will create the $2500 in savings per family.

Can someone point me in the direction of a similar page or PDF from the McCain campaign that outlines his healthcare agenda?

  3. Obama Kool-aid alert....Obama kool-aid alert.....

Many experts are saying that it will be decades before the $2,500 in savings are obtained if ever.

Obama says he can do it in 4 years.....LOL...

The Rand reseach that Obama hangs his hat on for the his projected savings is now saying that it take at least 15 years and probably not close to $2,500.

The experts are saying that market place is already moving into that direction of electronic records with or without Obama's plan.

McCain is also pushing for the same electronic records system. So I guess he can also make a bogus claim in $2,500 in savings.

Also, they say that is grossly under estimating the cost of his plan by 100%. That is what the government will have to pay. It will add another $100 to $150 billion in decifit spending.

  4. Let the government run it. They do such a great job with the schools, the border security, and public housing, why not let the same people take charge of your health care.

  5. No, I particularly like John McCain's plan. Remove the tax incentives for employers to provide health care, that'll fix the system!

Oh wait, then he takes an additional step and makes the benefits paid by your health insurance TAXABLE.

That's right, when your insurance company pays $12,000 for a c-section, McCain sees that $12k as TAXABLE INCOME.

Have a baby? McCain says, "Pay taxes!"

Break your arm? McCain says, "Pay taxes!"

Get cancer? McCain says, "Pay taxes!"

Have a stroke? McCain says, "Pay taxes!"

It's the most foolproof health care plan, ever!

  6. BS has no clue what he is talking about.

What the insurance company pays out will not become taxable income.

What your employer pays for your health insurance premiums becomes taxable income.

But that is offset with tax credits.

If your employer does not offer insurance, then you still get the tax credit and can use that tax credit to buy insurance.

What McCain is trying to do is move the choice of health insurance from the employer to the employee.

  7. Sorry, Nance, that's a byproduct of McCain's health care scheme.

He throws a tiny tax credit to families to assist them in purchasing insurance. Unfortunately, in order to afford an insurance plan that is within his tax credit, consumers will probably be forced to buy a high-deductible healthcare plan.

A high-deductible health care plan will then increase the out-of-pocket costs for routine surgeries and treatments.

Thus, consumers will PAY MORE out of their pocket for LESS COVERAGE.

Sure sounds like a tax to me.

  8. So neiman, the federal government runs the military too. You saying they screwed that up too? What are you, a subversive?

  9. Nice try at recovery from your inital blunder...theBS

Those people will be able to use the Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) to pay for those deductibles with tax free income dollars.
