Man shot by police after confrontation

Sat, Sep 6, 2008 (5:41 p.m.)

A man was shot by a Metro Police officer overnight after the man reached for a gun during a confrontation with two police officers, authorities said today.

The incident began about 1:42 a.m., when Metro Police, responding to a report of shots fired, discovered two men inside a wrought iron fence at an apartment complex in the western Las Vegas Valley.

Officers arriving at the Woodhaven Apartments, 3650 Stober Ave., told the men to stop, police said. One of the men was wearing a T-shirt that officers believed could conceal a weapon. Two officers told the man to raise the T-shirt and spotted a handgun in his waistband.

The officers told the man to surrender, police said. Instead, the man reached into his waistband and began removing the gun, which officers took as a confrontation, police said. At this point, one of the officers fired at the man several times, police said.

The man was taken to University Medical Center where he underwent surgery, police said. No report on his condition is available at this time.

Per police department policy, the two officers have been placed on administrative leave. Their names will be released in 48 hours, police said.

Discussion: 5 comments so far…

  1. Police shoot people every week in this town. Is the place that bad now?

  2. I guess the officer is on paid leave, while waiting to go to kangaroo court.

  3. There are more crackheads and degenrates per square mile than any other place in the world. This is why you shouldn't want legalized gambling in your hometown.

  4. This is why people should take their children and move as far away from this hell-hole as possible.

  5. Drugs abound everywhere although I do agree that this is no town for kids - wouldn't that be wonderful - an 'adults only' State - I can dig it!
