LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Republican speakers took the low road
Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 | 2:06 a.m.
Now that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has thrilled the Republican convention delegates with her “snarky” speech, I get the feeling this is going to be the turning point in the electoral process where things get nasty.
I’m hoping Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden continue to act like gentlemen statesmen and not second-rate stand-up comedians like Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and, yes, Sarah Palin. For all the praise heaped on her Wednesday, I was hoping to see her present herself as a bona fide candidate for vice president and not just another political hack.
Now that all the convention hoopla is over, let’s see how the candidates continue to define themselves and what they are actually going to do to reverse George Bush’s eight years of failure.
Something else notable about Wednesday’s lead-up speakers to Palin: With the possible exception of Mike Huckabee, all of them are now extremely wealthy former politicians. The Republicans even threw in a few millionaire chief executives for good measure.
Is it any wonder that every speaker denounced Obama’s plan to increase taxes? Is it any wonder they failed to mention that any tax increases would affect only the wealthiest Americans? There wasn’t much talk about providing health care for 47 million uninsured Americans either.

Phil must have forgot so here is a recap of Obama’s acceptance speech.
Here is Obama’s take on the character of John McCain:
The truth is, on issue after issue that would make a difference in your lives – on health
care and education and the economy – Senator McCain has been anything but
independent.
Now, I don’t believe that Senator McCain doesn’t care what’s going on in the lives of
Americans. I just think he doesn’t know.
It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care. It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it.
John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell – but he won’t even go to the cave where he lives.
You keep posting that, Future. Perhaps you can explain what the problem might be. It IS the truth about McCain.
Oh. I see. THAT'S the problem.
Nevermind.
These are Obama's own words in his major unity acceptance speech. This was a week ahead of the RNC. So to say that Sarah was the turning point in the electoral process where things get nasty, is not consistent with the timing.
Just keep remembering Barak Obama is not above sling "snarky" comment. Biden and other were much worst.
Does not matter if you or I believe them.
It about Obama's attitude. Is this going to bring unity after Obama win.
Nevermind. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid do not need or want unity
I'm not seeing the snarky or nasty part in what Obama said; and that's what you posted. Then you come back with "Biden and other[sic] were much worst[sic]".
Frankly, this is one area where I happen to agree with Obama .... but it's not a take on McCain's character; it's a take on McCain's STAND on the ISSUES.
So I go back to my original question .... what's the problem here?
