Letter to the editor:
Republicans squelch individual rights
Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 | 2:02 a.m.
I find it utterly amazing that Republicans will go to the polls and vote against their best interests and those of the country as a whole. I was a registered Republican for more than 40 years, until the wrongful impeachment of President Clinton by the Republicans.
I never voted party line because it was my belief one should vote for the best candidate based on experience and the policies outlined for his term. Because this is supposed to be a democracy, the policies should include equal benefits for the general population and not be weighted in favor of big businesses.
The eight years of the Bush administration have worked to diminish the population’s individual constitutional rights, congressional oversight of the president and the governmental agencies that oversee the security and safety of the population. This is done to enhance the profits and rights of the corporations. When you vote for the Republican ideology, you are voting against your individual rights and security.
Looking at the pro-life issue, the Republicans want to revoke Roe v. Wade and make abortions illegal. I’m not an advocate of abortions; however, individuals should have the right to make this decision without consultation with anyone other than their doctor. The Republicans are hypocrites requiring pro-life, as they have no problem with the killing of innocent men, women and children while waging unnecessary wars. Give me a break.

Well said sir. I was sent off to Afghanistan 7 years ago to catch a man who was responsible for the attacks of 9/11.
It was painfully apparent upon our arrival that we were completely understrength to ever stand a chance of catching Bin laden.
This current administration threw the one chance it had at capturing Bin Laden away to fry "bigger fish" in Iraq. I came back to the states in 2002. after taking part in a failed operation (Anaconda) only to see several of my close friends wounded for what?
Every bad guy we were sent out to capture got out of country while they had the chance to do so.
None of the borders were secure and we never had even a fraction of the troops that were allocated to Iraq despite the two countries being the same size.
Well, that being said...I was disgusted at the half ass way Rumsfeld ran the Afghanistan campaign and left the Army while I still could.
There was no point staying in only to watch the men I cared about killed and wounded for nothing of value.
The pro lifers would choose to keep us alive so that we can fight their dirty wars?
Killing one another with rifles and bombs is just fine even if your innocent and get caught in the cross fire but god forbid you might want to control the worlds population by other means?
Why were you a registered Republican when you do not believe in their principles?
Low taxes, national defense, pro-life, sexual harrassement rights (covers interns), foreign survellince act (Obama signed on).
Sure we are against redistribution economics, the over-the-horizion fighting strategy, unfettered Unions.
You need to re-register
Since when are Republicans against "over the horizon fighting"?
The Republicans have always looked out for the interests of big business and the wealthy. Their main goal (imho)has ALWAYS been to eliminate the middle class - apparently it's the one thing Bush has just about been successful at - and as for their morals - they need to stick to letting people vote and decide and the majority shall prevail. I don't advocate abortions either but I do believe it's a womans own right to choose - just as I don't care much for the gay/lesbian ideals but that's THEIR business not mine. These politicians need to stop trying to shove their morals down everyone's throat and trying to force them upon the masses. What makes these 'chosen few' think they have all the (correct)answers? They are just human like the rest of us - if they were infallable they'd be God - oh, wait, they already believe they are.
Republicans never gave a damn about pre-life until Reagon brought in the "Moral-Majority". That kind of government intrusion is completely against what the Republican Party has always stood for. It was that group's takeover of the Republicans that made me start voting for Democrats.
