Summerlin deaths

Timothy Bodie
Timothy O. Bodie, 51, of Las Vegas, died Oct. 22.
The 18-year resident was born July 4, 1957, in Elmhurst, Ill. He was an investment managing director.
Bodie is survived by his wife, Janice Carlson of Las Vegas; and brother, Brian Bodie of Woodridge, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.
A memorial service was held Oct. 25 at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.
Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.
Emilio Martinez
Emilio Martinez, 73, of Las Vegas, died Oct. 22.
The 35-year resident was born Dec. 1, 1934, in New York City. He retired a major in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.
Martinez is survived by his son, Edward W. Martinez of Margate, Fla.; daughters Debra A. Delgado and Lynn M. Griffith, both of Las Vegas, and Cindy E. Renga of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters Ophelia Gomez of Las Vegas, Gladys Rivera and Lydia Guzman; brother, Domingo Llerena of Florida; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family requests that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, 638-6477 or HabitatLasVegas.org.
A memorial Mass was held Oct. 29 at St. Viator Catholic Church.
Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.
William Phillips
William Grant Phillips, 59, of Las Vegas, died Oct. 18, in Parowan, Utah, in an airplane crash.
He was born July 7, 1949, in Boulder City to William and Shirley Phillips. He was retired from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Bill graduated from Boulder City High School in 1967. He earned a four-year Dorothea Brinker Scholarship. He was on the dean's Honor List and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics from UNLV in 1971. He earned a Master of Science in physics from UNLV in 1973.
Bill completed his graduate course work and thesis in theoretical physics with a straight-A average. His theoretical research was one of applying Einstein's General Theory of Relativity to a previously unsolved astrophysical problem. The solution of this problem was published and he received recognition among scientific communities dealing with this sort of work.
Bill was employed by the EPA and in 1974 he received the EPA Bronze Medal for his outstanding service in a joint government industry. In 1987, the EPA sent him to the University of Washington, Seattle, where he earned a second master's degree in health physics. He became a board-certified health physicist to study the nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain.
He was an experienced airline transport pilot and was passionate about flying. His fascination with airplanes started when he was 10 years old. He had 10 licenses to fly various aircraft.
Bill married Janice Lanuti on Dec. 24, 1987.
He was also an artist and a pianist.
Bill is survived by his wife, Janice, who was a passenger in the aircraft when it crashed. She sustained multiple fractures and injuries and is recovering in a Salt Lake City hospital. He is also survived by his mother, Shirley Phillips of Boulder City; brother, Robert Phillips and wife, Lynn; nephews Matthew and Christopher of Las Vegas; and his lifelong friend Dr. David Elkins.
Memorial services will be held when Janice recovers.
Thomas Rogers
Thomas L. Rogers, 89, of Las Vegas, died Oct. 27.
The 16-year resident was born June 20, 1919, in Los Angeles. He was a retired police officer and a U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
Rogers is survived by his daughter, Geraldine A. Taylor of Castle Rock, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date in California.
Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne.
