flashpoint:
The irrational exuberance of Democrats
Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 | 2 a.m.
Call it the irrational exuberance of Democrats counting a few extra chickens, or more than idle speculation on just how far the coming wave could reach. Speaking on CNN on Monday afternoon, analyst Paul Begala, the Democratic strategist, invoked Nevada’s Congressional District 2 as a place where the Republican brand is so toxic that it could carry Jill Derby to victory. This is a comment that would have sparked ridicule six months ago. But judging by early voting numbers in Washoe County, where Democrats are swamping Republicans, Begala may not be wrong. Heller has to be worried, especially because Washoe has become a bigger and bigger part of the district. He’s still the favorite, but I bet Heller shuddered as Begala spoke.
