Brush burning to cause smoke in eastern valley

Las Vegas Valley residents might see clouds of black smoke rising on the valley's eastern edge today through Wednesday.
Firefighters, Las Vegas Valley Water District officials and representatives of Clark County's Wetlands Park are joining forces to burn piles of dry brush over five to eight acres of land in the wash, said Scott Allison, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department.
The burn location is at the end of Hollywood Boulevard near Lake Las Vegas.
The wetland are being restored by removing tamarisk, or salt cedar, along with other non-native plants. Once the invading plants have been removed, native bushes and trees are planted to restore the natural habitat of the wash.
The burn is expected to create smoke that could be visible across the valley, Allison said.
