Letter to the editor:

Why Obama will pass tests of presidency

Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.

Will the next president of the United States be tested within his first six months in office? Of course he will! Should this come as some sort of surprise?

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden stated the obvious.

With the United States involved in two wars, a Middle East in upheaval, potential rivals acquiring nuclear armaments, genocide in Africa, rampant global pollution, an energy crisis and worldwide economic uncertainty, there’s a pretty good chance the next president will be put to the test on a host of problems, seen and unseen.

A young President Barack Obama will be tested. And, we’ve gotten a glimpse of the steady and reasoned approach he takes to problems, unlike his opponent, whose erratic behavior suggests otherwise.

John McCain says America doesn’t want a president who will be tested, but that’s because John McCain is not that good at taking tests. Look at his academic career! Then look at his assessment of the economy in the midst of a crisis.

Should I dare say look at his support of the failed policies of the Bush administration over the past eight years? I have no fear of Barack Obama passing the test. It’s John McCain I worry about.
