Students named merit semifinalists
Palo Verde High School students Ann Marie Finley, Kian Ameli and Whitney Cox have been named as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program.
The three students' PSAT scores placed them among the top 16,000 high school students in the United States.
The students will continue to compete for the title of National Merit Scholar and college scholarship money.
Additionally, student Jeffery Parker was named a Commended Student by the National Merit Program.
Palo Verde holds holiday food drive
Palo Verde High School's Black History club is teaming up with the city of Las Vegas to help needy families during Thanksgiving.
The club will accept donations of non-perishable foods, canned goods, cake and pie mixes and all the trimmings for Thanksgiving dinner until Nov. 14. The club is also seeking donations of turkeys the week of Nov 14.
Centennial students earn honors
Centennial High School students Jonathon Rogers, Robby Rodowick, Sara Mohlman, Anne Marie Clayson and David Casey have been named to the Clark County School District Honor Choir. The students are led by Centennial choir director Karen Miskell.
Students Jared Rhizor and Laura Pulsipher have been selected for the Clark County School District Honor Orchestra. They are under the direction of Terry Hill.
Sawyer holds carnival
Sawyer Middle School will host the fourth annual Fall Festival Carnival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 25.
The festival will include raffle prizes, games, snacks and desserts, face painting and performances by school and community groups.
The entry fee is $1 at the door, and game tickets will be on sale for 25 cents each.
The event is open to the community.
Goolsby Fall Festival and Expo
The Goolsby Elementary School Parent Leadership Team will host the Fall Festival and Shopping Expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15.
The festival will include food, games, raffles and entertainment, as well as vendor tables. The festival is free and open to the community. All proceeds from the festival will go toward school programs.
Spring Valley seeks parent volunteers
Spring Valley High School needs parent volunteers to help with answering phones, general office duties and teacher printing assignments.
Volunteers are needed between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and can volunteer as many hours as they wish on a regular basis.
