Church hosting family fair

The International Church of Las Vegas, 8100 Westcliff Drive, is inviting the public to a free Family Fun Fair from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 on church grounds as a safe alternative to trick-or-treating.

Live entertainment, a classic car show, bounce houses, game booths, pony rides and trackless trains will be at the event. Some of the rides will cost $1, but all the candy will be free. Food will also be available for purchase.

Food drive helping Salvation Army

The 10th Annual Food Drive benefitting the Las Vegas Chapter of the Salvation Army Food Bank will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Smith's Food & Drug, 2211 N. Rampart Blvd.

ArtWalk including music, crafts

The 10th Annual Fall ArtWalk, the Las Vegas Valley's largest and longest-running juried art festival, is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 at the Trails Village Center, 1970 Village Center Circle.

More than 70 new and returning artists will participate.

Live music, a kid's art park and Native American craft demonstrations will also be enjoyed at the free event.

Home fire causes $500,000 in damage

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said a fire caused $500,000 in damage the evening of Oct. 18 to a house in Summerlin.

Firefighters responded at 11:29 p.m. to 1512 Chambolle Court, near the intersection of Anasazi Drive and Summerlin Parkway, in the Vineyards subdivision. The fire engulfed the attic area of the two-story home. It took firefighters about half an hour to bring it under control.

No one was injured.

The cause was under investigation.

Holocaust survivor speaking

The Stillpoint Center for Spiritual Development will host Holocaust survivor and author Henry Kronberg of Las Vegas from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Kronberg will retell his experiences of being in Nazi concentration camps and how he barely escaped.

The Stillpoint Center for Spiritual Development is at 8072 W. Sahara Ave., Suite D, near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Buffalo Drive.

Violinist, pianist performing

The Starbright Theater in Sun City Summerlin will host violinist De Ann Letourneau and concert pianist Sandra Rivers for "A Grand Evening with Beethoven" at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25 and 2 p.m. on Oct. 26.

The Starbright Theatre is at 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd. in Sun City Summerlin.

Admission is $15 for residents of Sun City Summerlin and $20 for non-residents. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Starbright Theater box office.

Desert Vista hosting Monster Mash

The ballroom inside the Desert Vista Community Center in Sun City Summerlin will transform into a ghoulish party for the Monster Mash at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The Desert Vista Community Center is located at 10360 Sun City Blvd.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8.

Shopping center having Halloween party

The Village Square Shopping Center, at 9440 W. Sahara Ave. near the corner of Sahara Avenue and Fort Apache Road, is hosting its 3rd annual Safe Halloween to Remember from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The event is free. Children of all ages are encouraged to wear their most ghoulish Halloween attire for a costume contest from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The festivities will also include live music from Mix 94.1 FM and trick or treating at Village Square Shopping Center businesses starting at 5 p.m. There will also be carnival games, pumpkin decorating, a bounce house, hay rides and a petting zoo.

Cancer center to hold haircut event

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada and the Metro Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will host the second annual Klip It for Kidz to benefit the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Metro Enterprise Area Command Center, 6975 W. Windmill Road, Las Vegas.

Event-goers may be sponsored by friends, family, co-workers and companies to have their heads shaved or donate hair to Locks of Love.

The event will also include exhibitions by the Metro K-9 unit, S.W.A.T. Team and Bomb Squad. Admission is free.

Easter Seals to host Trunk or Treat

Easter Seals Southern Nevada is hosting its third annual Trunk or Treat 5-8 p.m. Oct. 25. The event will take place at 6200 W. Oakey Blvd., near the intersection of Charleston and Jones boulevards.

Admission is $15 per family and includes trick-or-treating, face painting, games and a haunted house.

Cooking class offered for children

Local youth will have the chance to attend a Halloween-themed cooking class at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 25.

Two groups of children, one age 4 to 9 and the other age 10 to 18, will make a variety of food.

Admission is $25 per child and parents can attend for free. Each child must be accompanied by an adult.
