Letter to the editor:
Rich should wake up to needs of the poor
Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 | 2:02 a.m.
Listening to the presidential candidates deliver their messages makes me believe this debate is between the rich and the needy.
It is evident that John McCain represents the rich and Barack Obama represents the needy.
I am neither rich nor needy, so I have allowed myself time to express an opinion in this matter.
I am in awe that many needy folks and many who have lost their life savings, because of the failing economy created by the rich party, will again vote for the rich. I do not want to label them as unwise, but if you burn your hand on a hot stove, your instincts will stop you from doing it again. What are they thinking?
Let us think about the rich folks:
Wall Street, oil companies, casinos, superstores, professional athletes, etc., make their millions from products used by the needy. When the needy have a few extra pennies to spend, where does it go? Mostly to purchase products provided by the rich.
If the rich do not wish to become needy, they best forget about trickle-down economics and wise up to who supports them and at least try to help.

I am well off and recognize there are varying levels of needy. There are homeless people who have mental problems and need our help. Families who through minimal fault of their own also need help. I don't know or associate with any person of means who doesn't feel the same as I do. Besides paying taxes at a higher level most of us support local non profits that help our fellow citizens.
What we do object to is the class of needy that has arisen over the last 20 years comprised of the individuals with a "You owe me sucker" attitude.
I also object to sending a dollar to Washington to help the poor and watching as 5 or 10 cents gets filtered back to help those poor.
Equalizing income levels via abusive taxation of the rich won't solve the problem. Eventually you'll run out of the rich.
I believe that if all of the money in the world were evenly distributed to the people, within one years time we would again have the rich and the poor.
You have more than I and I want some of yours. Give it to me or I will take it. That's how revolutions start and they always end badly.
