Residents asked to vote in ‘Green and Great’ contest

Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 | midnight

Henderson is asking its residents to vote, and not just in the current election.

In honor of National Community Planning Month, the city hosted a photo and video contest that captured green living and community improvements. Now that all the entries have been received, it is time to select the winners.

The work of the city's planners affect the lives of Henderson residents every day, contest organizers said. Planners work to maintain neighborhood character, reduce environmental impact, provide protection from natural disasters, preserve parks and open spaces, and help determine where buildings, businesses, homes and roads will be located.

The photo and video contest was a chance for residents to capture the efforts of the city planners in the community and celebrate how their work makes Henderson a nice place to live, organizers said.

Two awards will be given in six categories, the Viewers Choice Award and the Planners Choice Award. The categories include green neighborhood photo edited, green neighborhood photo unedited, green neighborhood video, great planning photo edited, great planning photo unedited and great planning video.

Submissions can be viewed and voted on by visiting, www.cityofhenderson.com and clicking on the Green and Great link. The winners, to be announced Oct. 30, will be featured on the city's Web site and used in future city marketing campaigns.
