World War II vets to be remembered
Palm Mortuary will sponsor the free premiere of the documentary film "Lest They be Forgotten — Las Vegas" at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Clark County Library Performing Arts Center, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The 70-minute film by Larry Cappetto features more than 40 local World War II veterans. In the film the men give first hand accounts of their experiences in Europe and the Pacific.

Church to host Trash to Treasures sale
The Green Valley United Methodist Church will hold its second annual Trash to Treasure rummage sale 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at the church, 2200 Robindale Road.
Money raised from the sale will be used to fund the church's Benevolence Ministry, an organization that helps those in crisis.

St. Viator women to hold bazaar
The Women's Guild of St. Viator Catholic Church will host their annual Holiday Bazaar 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 8 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Parish Center, 2461 E. Flamingo Road.
The bazaar will feature more than 30 local crafters, homemade baked goods, homemade candy and cookbooks. There will also be a bounce house for children, raffle prizes and Gramma's Attic. Gramma's Attic will have gently used items for sale.

City plans annual decorating contest
The Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission will be accepting applications for the annual holiday decorating contest until Nov. 10.
Residents can enter one of three categories: fewer than 1,000 lights, 1,000 lights or more and a group category.
Commission members will judge entries 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 1. The winners will be announced at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 during Winterfest at the Henderson Events Plaza.

Golf tourney to fund college scholarships
The University of Southern Nevada's ninth annual Scholarship Golf Tournament begins at 8 a.m. Nov. 10 at Cascata, 1 Cascata Drive, Boulder City.
The event will begin with registration and a continental breakfast. Shotgun start will be at 10 a.m. A luncheon and raffle will follow the tournament.

Church offers recovery program
The Green Valley Christian Center will host Celebrate Recovery, a biblically based 12-step support group for those trying to overcome addictions, anger, stress and other problems.
Meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday nights at the center, 711 Valle Verde Court, near the intersection of Valle Verde Drive and Sunset Road. The program is free, anonymous and confidential. Free child care will also be provided.

Easter Seals to host Trunk or Treat
Easter Seals Southern Nevada is hosting its third annual Trunk or Treat from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. The event will take place at 6200 W. Oakey Blvd., near the intersection of Charleston and Jones boulevards.
Admission is $15 per family and includes trick-or-treating, face painting, games and a haunted house. The event is open to the public and children will be trick-or-treating from car trunk to car trunk.
Easter Seals provides programs and services for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.

Foundation offers $1 million prize
The Foundation for Positively Kids is hosting a Rubber Duck Derby with a chance to win $1 million.
The Foundation is a Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization providing services for Clark County's medically fragile and terminally ill children,
The 2008 Rubber Duck Derby runs noon-4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Town Square, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The 10,000 yellow ducks will be dropped into the fountains at Town Square and winners will be plucked at random. Prizes will be given to for winning ducks and one will win the $1 million grand prize.
Ducks are $5 each or keep a duck family together for $25 per family of six ducks. Entrance is free.
