*The behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles LOVE musical at the Mirage had a one-night special screening here and yesterday the All Together Now DVD was released worldwide. Having watched it at the Brendan Theaters in the Palms, I can tell you it is an emotional experience -- and very revealing in how Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison fought to ensure their late husband’s works were treated respectfully in the spectacular. The interviews with both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr during the almost two-year creation process were enlightening. The DVD release of the film shows the unique partnership between the Beatles and Cirque to fulfill a dream that George Harrison had before his death with Cirque founder Guy laLiberte that they could develop a musical from all the group’s music. Fans will be amazed at how Sir George Martin and his son Giles spent 24 months diligently disciplined and dedicated in working on what would become the show’s final soundtrack.
*Our merry mayor of mirth, Oscar Goodman, has opened a new building on the perimeter of Union Park downtown with an Andre Agassi 24-hour fitness gym and a Chasen’s Deli. Oscar says a new large jewelry center and a Charlie Palmer boutique hotel will follow after the new Performing Arts Center breaks ground alongside the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute building designed by Frank Gehry opens in March. “It’s a tale of two cities," Oscar said. “We have the Strip and we have downtown, which is a city within a city. Downtown is the core of an apple and really undergoing a renaissance. I’d like it to be a totally 'green' city but I can assure you before I quit we will have fulfilled our goal and dream of making downtown a world-class city in itself.”
*The run-through wedding chapel will re-appear for this year’s Marathon on Dec. 7. Running Rev. Jaime Firzlaff will lead the participating runners from the 6 a.m. start at Mandalay Bay and then officiate the ceremony at the Special Memory Wedding Chapel downtown on Fourth Street at 7:15 a.m. Incidentally, this year the Marathon will limit the number of overall runners so that once 20,000 competitors are signed up for the full-and-half Marathon, registration will be closed -- so sign up fast to run and promise those “I Do’s”.
