Letter to the editor:

Neither party should have absolute power

Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 | 2:02 a.m.

Confident that they will soon control the presidency and the Congress, some Democrats are talking about their agenda. Ignore the budget deficit, more money for stimulus packages, tax the rich to fill the government coffers, revive the fairness doctrine, etc.

Republicans had their turn and messed up big time. Now Americans are about to turn everything over to Democrats and see how that works. It’s too bad Americans cannot see that we are a “centrist” nation, not very far right or very far left.

Most of us are not Republican conservatives or Democratic liberals. We are “moderate” in our beliefs. That should mean that the last thing we ever do is give either one of the major parties complete control of our government.

My hope is that “moderate” Democrats and “moderate” Republicans will be able to successfully stand against the push to the far left I suspect we will see after this election.

My party affiliation is nonpartisan, precisely because neither major party represents my views. That is a sad state of affairs if you think about it.
