Gusty winds, cooler temperatures on tap

A blustery cold front passed through the Las Vegas Valley overnight, which will mean a 12-degree drop in daytime temperatures today, the National Weather Service said.
Winds gusting from 15 to 25 mph are expected to continue throughout the day along the Colorado River basin and Lake Mead, so the weather service has issued a wind advisory and a red alert, meaning that fire danger in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area is high and any wildfire could spread in the dry brush in the area.
In contrast to temperatures in the high 80s on Tuesday, today's daytime highs should range from mid to high 70s with winds sporadic over the Las Vegas Valley.
Temperatures will stay seasonably cool today and Thursday before another round of higher than normal temperatures settles over the valley for the weekend. There's no rain in sight, the weather service said.
