Coroner: Man in burning home died of blunt force trauma

The death of a 42-year-old North Las Vegas man, Eddie Morrell Heckard, whose body was found in a burning bedroom at a home near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue, was caused by blunt force trauma to the head, the coroner's office said today.
From the time the Las Vegas Fire Department responded to the blaze Sept. 22 at 1409 J St., Metro Police said they were investigating Heckard's death as a homicide.
Firefighters discovered the body after dousing flames at the residence.
Lt. Lew Roberts of Metro's robbery/homicide section said the death is being investigated as a homicide.
There are no suspects in the case, a police detective said.
