M Resort asks for 11.5 more acres

Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 | 1:07 p.m.

The M Resort has asked Henderson for permission to add 11.5 acres to its resort project at St. Rose Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard South, which would increase its total size to 93 acres.

Resort developers recently bought the 11.5 acres, spread across five parcels, and had them annexed into Henderson.

The Planning Commission recommended Thursday that the city allow the expansion. The City Council is scheduled to vote on the matter Nov. 4.

If approved, it will be the fifth time the resort has increased its land holdings since it was initially approved in 2005.

The size of the gaming overlay that is required for the resort would remain unchanged at about 46 acres. The remaining land has been zoned for tourist commercial and set aside for a commercial and residential mixed-use development, where non-restricted gaming would not be allowed.

Resort developer Anthony Marnell has yet to submit any plans for the mixed-use area, according to city documents, and any future plan would still be subject to a design review.

The M Resort is scheduled to open in March.
