'Beauty' performed at Summerlin Library
The classic tale of Beauty and the Beast is coming to the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center for a one-month showing beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20.
The play runs until Nov. 22 with showings each Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. except for a 2 p.m. matinee showing on Nov. 15.
Beauty and the Beast is presented by Signature Productions, a Las Vegas-based community theater company founded in 1989.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $23 for seniors age 60 and over. Children age 3 to 12 are $15 and students age 13 and over are $23.

Politics on tap for breakfast
Nevada Republican and Democratic party leaders will provide commentary and insight on the upcoming state and national elections from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School's Business Advisory Council Breakfast.
Joseph W. Brown, Republican National Committeeman for Nevada, and Sam Lieberman, chairman of the Nevada State Democratic Party, will be featured in a political discussion on both the state and national scene.
Tickets are $10 for the public and free to Business Advisory Council leaders.
Drive helping food bank
The 10th Annual Food Drive benefiting the Las Vegas Chapter of the Salvation Army Food Bank will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Smith's Food & Drug, 2211 N. Rampart Blvd.
The event is part of the national USA Weekend Magazine Make A Difference Day, a nationwide charity event.

Open house at Lit'l Scholar to feature immunizations, fun
The Lit'l Scholar Academy's Rainbow Campus is hosting its inaugural Fall Festival Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 18.
The event is free and open to the public. Lit'l Scholar Academy's Rainbow Campus is at 1951 S. Rainbow Blvd. near the intersection of Rainbow and Sahara Avenue.
Children and parents are invited to celebrate the fall season and enjoy a petting zoo, crafts and goodie bags for children.
The Clark County Health District will be on-hand providing immunizations for children including flu shots. The shots are free to those covered by Medicaid or Nevada Check-up and all others will be charged a nominal fee.
Guests are also encouraged to bring canned food items for donation to Safe Nest of Las Vegas, which strives to prevent domestic violence and provide shelter and counseling to those who are victims of domestic violence.

Fishing event to aid foster children
The public is invited to the third annual Child Focus Fishing Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 18 at The Lakes. It's an event that provides a chance for 30 local foster children to reunite with their siblings for an afternoon of fishing, lunch and games.
The children will gather at 9 a.m. on the dock at Captain's Cove Restaurant, at 2902 Lake East Drive near the corner of Sahara Avenue and Durango Drive. The morning fishing session will be followed by various games, a Mad Science activity and lunch.
In conjunction with the fishing event, the public is invited to a pet adoption and metal recycling event on the lawn adjacent to Captain's Cove Restaurant. BB Recycling Inc. will be on hand collecting unwanted metal such as aluminum cans, pots and pans, silverware and wire hangers.
Child Focus is a non-profit organization that provides support services and resources for children living in foster care throughout Southern Nevada.

Shopping center having Halloween party
The Village Square Shopping Center, at 9440 W. Sahara Ave. near the corner of Sahara Avenue and Fort Apache Road, is hosting its third annual "Safe Halloween to Remember" event from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.
The event is free and open to the public. Children of all ages are encouraged to wear their most ghoulish Halloween attire for a costume contest from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The festivities will also include live music from Mix 94.1 FM and trick or treating at Village Square Shopping Center businesses starting at 5 p.m. There will also be carnival games, pumpkin decorating, a bounce house, hay rides and a petting zoo.
