Centennial High School kicked off its Homecoming Week Oct. 6-10 with a victory — for the freshmen.

During the traditional Powder Puff game on Oct. 6, the girls took to the football field and the boys took on the cheerleading role. Surprisingly to most, the freshman girl flag-football team dominated the sophomore girl team and came out victorious with a 21-7 score.

Hard to miss while the girls made plays on the field was the group of seven cheerleader boys who attempted to get the crowd going by doing their version of jump-kicks, cartwheels and stunts (like making a pyramid and collapsing.)

Riley Creer, who admitted he was the ringleader, got his friends to participate, wanted to be a cheerleader for all the right reasons.

"I wanted to show off my sweet legs," he said.

Other homecoming events for the week included a lip sync contest, float building, a homecoming assembly and the dance.

The school didn't have just any homecoming week, however, it had a "My Super Sweet Homecoming" week.

Colorful posters, extravagant floats and the daily activities reflected the theme of the week, which was based on the popular MTV show, "My Super Sweet 16."

"A lot of students are really getting involved this year," said sophomore Katie Conners. "There's a ton of school spirit here."
