flashpoint:
Bruce Woodbury and the County Commission
Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 | 2 a.m.
Who knew that Bruce Woodbury, about to end more than a quarter-century of distinguished service, would have so much impact on both contested County Commission races this cycle? First Woodbury has gone all out — and uncharacteristically — to try to defeat Steve Sisolak and help Brian Scroggins win his seat. He has done two auto-dialers and used very strong, unWoodburylike language to assail Sisolak. Woodbury also has affected the Larry Brown-Valerie Weber race. During a public TV debate Thursday, Brown invoked his chairmanship of the Regional Transportation Commission to show his traffic expertise. Why is he chairman? Because Woodbury stepped down to give it to him. And he had to think that would help Brown.
