Bishop Gorman High School's fall play aims to transport audience members back more than 100 years with the comedy "Arms and the Man."
Originally written and produced by George Bernard Shaw in 1898, the play will be performed by Gorman drama students Oct. 23-26. Between the cast and crew, nearly 100 students from all grade levels will participate in the production.
The satiric play is set in 1885 during the four-month Serbo-Bulgarian War.
It's plot shows the foolishness of glorifying war, as well as basing affections on idealistic notions of love.
Each character in the play was double cast so as to allow more students to participate.
The main characters are as follows: seniors Samantha Smith and Annelie Tomasic will play Raina, junior Jocelle Flores and senior Sydney Southers will play Louka, senior Angelia Formisano and junior Taylor Reese will play Catherine, seniors Paulo Musni and John Olsen will play Bluntschli, senior Dean Beckwith and junior Nick Manfredi will play Sergius, junior Ben Nemec and senior Matt Tratos will play Major Petkoff, and sophomore Brendan Flynn and senior Michael Messenheimer will play Nicola.
The play will be directed by the school's department chair of the fine and performing arts, Elena Ferrante-Martin.
Preceding each performance of "Arms and the Man" will be a short play called "The Inca of Perusalem" performed by 14 students.
The bonus show is also a satire having to do with love.
It is co-directed by Bishop Gorman alumni Jacqueline and Jasmine Fayeghi.
Both plays will take place on the school campus.
