Letter to the editor:
Partisans hear what they want to hear
Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.
It has become exceedingly apparent to me that following a debate, or any other appearance by a political candidate, the pundits (both so-called professionals and amateurs) have declared that “their” candidate won. This is, for no other reason than they “saw and heard” exactly what they wanted to see and hear, whether the facts bear that out or not.
This applies to viewers of both parties and persuasions, but is overwhelmingly true of liberals. All one need do is to listen to the commentary following any speech or read about it in the next few days in our newspapers and newsmagazines to see whereof I speak.
People can, and do, put the spin they want on these events. Then they can reward themselves with a “See, I told you so.”
I read almost daily, in newspapers’ letters to the editor sections, that people (frequent contributors) have searched for and found some very minute statement that bears out their point of view against the opponent of their favored candidate.
I am not the only one who will be elated when all of the mudslinging and distortions are over. I am especially tired of the liberal accusations.

McCain wants to solve the economy by creating jobs and thus more taxpayers. Obama wants to take money and hand it out to more "deserving" people. How tough is this. We just handed the auto makers 25 billion in loans to help them out and Obama wants to raise their taxes? If you want less of something, you tax it. Tax employers and you will have less jobs, and we know they pass all the taxes on to the consumer. No matter what Obama says, we will all pay more under his plan because he has promised so many "the checks in the mail".
