Metro Police today said a man forced a woman walking to church on Sunday into a desert area in the northeastern Las Vegas Valley and assaulted her.

The woman was walking at about 5 a.m. Sunday to a church near Sloan Lane and Lake Mead Drive when the man forced her into the desert, where the sexual assault occurred, police said.

The man is described as 25 to 35 years old and 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, weighing between 215 and 240 pounds with a bald head, police said.

He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap with orange lettering, black sweat pants and a black shirt, police said.

The man may have had a small black and silver semi-automatic handgun at the time of the attack, police said. He is believed to have been driving an older model SUV that was tan in color.

Anyone with information about this man or the crime, or who may have been in the area and observed the suspect, is being asked to call Metro Police's sexual assault section at 828-3421. Or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
