Letter to the editor:
Republicans have become what they loathe
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.
God has a sense of humor. I have been a Republican all my life. My liberal friends think I am to the right of Attila the Hun.
The irony of all this is that the GOP for more than a century has accused the Democrats of being socialists. My favorite saying has been: America is great because of capitalism, not socialism.
We have witnessed how socialism has failed all over the world and especially with the former Soviet Union.
Now, after almost 150 years from the capitulation of the Whig Party and the birth of the GOP and capitalism, we are on the brink of disaster with our former philosophies.
The GOP has bailed out our banks and insurance companies with $700 billion of taxpayers’ money. The government now has control over much of big business in America.
Members of the GOP are the socialists, and that is bizarre. What also is bizarre is that we may soon hand over the country to the most liberal member of the Senate, Barack Obama. He will not have to fight for his liberal cause because the GOP will usher in what he has been fighting for all his political life.

Wait for the fundamental change to our economic system that Obama promises. With Pelosi and Reid he will accomplish what Kruchev swore 50 years ago, to bury us from within.
Well at least the Democrats say they're going to take your money, regulate you out of work, increase the national debt, and socialize the economy.
As wrong as they are policy wise, at least they don't lie about screwing up the country like Republicans.
Actually that's Kruschev. And the quote, "We will BURY you!" (insert taking off shoe and pounding it on the podium) was in reference to his idea that the USSR could outproduce the United States and in effect bury us economically...from without, not within.
Almost every week now, Obama has proposed new tax cuts and spending plans.
Obama is trying to bribe the American voters.
yeah and McCain is fearmongering against Obama, just like you. Wake up, people vote FOR candidates, not against them. Beef up what McSame's doing. The American public is tired of republicans constantly trying to scare the crap out of them with smears.
Democrats are experts at fearmongering.
Have you heard the Obama campaign say and their commericals that "McCain is going to take away your social security"?
They pull that one out every year.
Is this fearmongering calling McCain a segregationist? Does that put fear in black people?
When did socialism become a synonym for communism? Last I heard, the SU was communist (government ownership and control). Socialism is doing a lot better for a lot of Western Europeans than extreme capitalism has been doing for a lot of Americans, because socialism is more balanced than either capitalism or communism.
