Letter to the editor:
Not exactly the party of fiscal restraint
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 | 2:03 a.m.
According to a story by the Associated Press, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Sunday, “It’s kind of like those simple lessons our parents used to teach us: Don’t spend more than you have ... America just cannot afford another big spender in the White House.”
I guess that’s why, during eight years of Republican rule, we increased the national debt to $10 trillion.
I have a Ph.D. in math, but Sarah Palin’s math doesn’t add up.

Obama is not promising one penny in defict reduction.
Everyday Obama is coming up with new tax cuts and new spending plans of which all will be charge to our children's credit card.
Obama might become the trillion dollar man...that is the first President to generate trillion dollar budget deficits.
Is Obama trying to bribe the Amercian voter?
"Obama is not promising one penny in defict reduction."
That's a lie.
"The cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and states of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on. . . . If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we'd see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies."
-- Barack Obama, Speech in the U.S. Senate, March 13, 2006
There's more. If you took two seconds to go to Obama's web site and look you'd see. But true to form, Mr. Nance never lets the facts get in the way of his point.
I think Mr. Nance lives in his own little world and isn't willing to face facts.
John:
Typical Barry (and John as well)! Talks about the issue, but doesn't mention THE SUBJECT! Barry bemoans big deficits - when, ims, he voted for every overspending and budget-busting bill/law that came down the road...
Barry's site gets scrubbed fresh about every week. You (John) must have got the freshest spin and propaganda.
Barry has no intention of con-TROLLING the debt and deficits of the budget. Barry wails and moans, but with the x-tra spending - he votes for it always.
700 billion is about 5% of the GNP; of our economy. 5c on the dollar doesn't control anything. It DOES prompt socialists like Pelosi, Reid etc to offer a new stimulus package about every other day - these days.
Obama is a lying sack of crap. Barry couldn't hold Bush's briefing book.
Face facts, not liberal lies: Democrats watered down, shredded and guilted the laws regarding the FMs - dummied down mortgages for those who need to use their child-support / unemployment checks as verification of income. Acting on their social communist desires to social engineer, people like Raines, Frank, Johnson, Dodd and Waters forced, through FAILED social communism, bad - stinking - debt into the system. The "buck" does not belong to Bush, but to those who undermine we all.
The LSD party (small p) would have loved to lose the war (failed there, barely) AND tank the economy - to win an election.
This economic strife is liberal efforted, liberal inspired and liberal delivered to "The People". There is no doubt of this, except among social communist kool-aiders, of course!
JohnF says trillion dollar Obama gave a speech saying the deficts are bad.....really bad.
Just a FYI, Obama does not claim anywhere on his website to cut the deficit.
But his budget numbers say that he will greatly increase the deficits.
Everyday, he offers new unpaid for tax cuts and new spending problems.
I will not be surprise if Obama promises everybody will get a new car......oooooops....he has already promise a $7,0000 tax credit if you buy the $45,000 new Volt.

Cha-chang.......there goes another unpaid for deficit buster by the trillion dollar man.
Mr. Nance's concern about the deficit is touching, if not recent. Where has this concern been lo these past eight years?
Obama's proposed tax structure and budget will not eliminate the deficit, but it will reduce it (which, according to your first post, Obama does not claim to do). McCain's proposals don't even promise to reduce the deficit.
Obama has promised to reinstate the "pay as you go" rules which require any new spending to either be offset by a tax increase or a concommitant reduction in spending elsewhere. That is fiscally responsible. At the very least, under these rules the deficit won't grow.
Where's John McCain's pledge on this?
For Republicans to claim that they are the party of fiscal responsibility after all we've seen in the last eight years is laughable.
There is no claim by the Obama campaign to reduce budget deficits either on their website or in campaign speeches or by campaign spokesman.
As for "pay as you go", Obama has released several new tax cuts and spending programs that are not paid for. So I guess he has thrown that out the window.
Obama is trying to bribe the American voters.
There is no claim of budget deficit reductions on Barry's website. Barry's promises well more than blow up deficits larger than before.
"pay as you go"??? Really, John? You REALLY believe that? Nancy Pelosi promised PPG in 2007 when she assumed Speaker of The House = and look at what happened. She's out last TH or so wanting ANOTHER 150BILL "stimulus package".
"For Republicans to claim that they are the party of fiscal responsibility after all we've seen in the last eight years is laughable."
What's more laughable IS that Liberal Socialist Democrats believe they can be!
Watching liberals believe Barry reminds me of studying the lies, unkept promises and populational propaganda of the Hitler/Third Reich era.
Dark days are ahead if the lying sack of crap Barry Hussein Obama is elected POTUS.
Enemies of America, Rejoice!! Rise, ACORN, rise!!
Wow, and which party took a crisis and suspended several civil liberties to combat it, like the Reichstag fire decree? Sounds like the Patriot Act to me. In any case, Hitler was an avowed anti-democrat and said so repeatedly in speeches and in Mein Kampf. Learn some history buddy before you make such stupid partisan comparisons. The fact that he is able to rally people should scare you if all you are is an insular neo-con who only wants republicans in control.
hmmm... one party control, I wonder if that sounds a little like the National Socialist Workers Party.
I guess that you are happy that Obama is for FISA.
Some analysts believe that next year's deficit could easily top $700 billion, giving the next president a formidable challenge.
Both parties need to cut spending and increase revenues!
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure this out!
Obama will be the billion dollar man if he inherits 700 billion from Dubya and Spendy! Who would want to be the president picking up the mess from these two idiots?
NVMakz, you have no idea what you are talking about. My parents are Holocaust survivors. I have almost no family, as they were mostly killed during WWII by the Nazis. Trying to compare Obama to Hitler is really sick. The only reason I looked at your comments is because my husband wrote the above letter to the editor which fostered this conversation which apparently gave you a forum to air your sick views. Please apologize to me and the millions of Jews you have offended.
The Neocons are the closest in ideology to the Nazis of any group since WWII--goosestepping mindlessly to the mantra of the republican party without thinking about the consequences. I am neither Republican nor Democrat, but if liberal is the title for one who cares about the fiscal condition of the nation and one who votes for those who care about our country's citizens, then call me a liberal. I am proud to stand up for what our forefathers believed in: a country that was established for the benefit of those who believed in freedom from oppression.
